Summary:
Under the direction of the Shop Supervisor or Superintendents; the Shop Labourer supports the heavy equipment maintenance team by assiting technicians, maintaining shop organization and ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient work environment. This role is essential for maximizing technician productivity, improving workflow, and supporting overall shop operations.
This is a safety- sensitive position that requires completion of pre- employment / pre- access testing. In addition, this position may require completion of client training and a competency assessment.
Key Focus:
Assist heavy equipment technicians with basic mechanical tasks under direction.
Remove/install guards, drain fluids, clean parts, and perform simple disassembly tasks.
Set up tooling, jacks, stands, and cribbing for safe repairs under direction.
Help prepare components and equipment before and after repair work.
Pick up, deliver, and return parts from warehouse, vendors, or field units.
Maintain stock of shop consumables including filters, fluids, fasteners, rags, and PPE.
Organize and track delivery of components, cores, and materials.
Properly handle, label, and dispose of used fluids, filters, scrap metal, and waste materials.
Steam clean, pressure wash, and degrease equipment as required.
Clean shop bays, and work areas to maintain a safe environment.
Prepare machines for service or inspection by removing debris, mud, and contaminants.
Inspect and maintain shop tooling: jacks, lifts, torque tools, hoses, and rigging.
Report damaged or unsafe tools and apply tag-out when required.
Organize tooling, ensure tools are returned to proper locations, and maintain inventory accuracy.
• Sweep, mop, and maintain general housekeeping of the shop.
Empty garbage, recycling, and waste bins daily.
Assist with minor building or yard maintenance: hoses, lighting, doors, and air lines.
Support technicians and supervisors with equipment moves and staging.
Other duties as assigned for the support of applicant clients and shop services.
Follow all company and site-specific safety policies, procedures, and work practices.
Participate actively in safety meetings, hazard assessments, and toolbox talks.
Complete Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) prior to work and ensure controls are in place.
Immediately report incidents, near misses, or unsafe conditions to supervision.
Maintain a tidy and hazard-free work area to prevent slips, trips, and falls.
Other duties as assigned for the support of applicant clients and shop services.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
Ability to perform physical labour, lifting up to 50+ lbs, and work in all types of shop conditions.
Valid Class 5 License is required, along with a satisfactory 3 yr drivers abstract.
Energetic, social, outgoing individual, willing to take the initiative and work with minimal supervision.
Experience in heavy equipment, mining, construction and/or industrial shops.
Forklift experience, loader experience, telehandler experience and/or aerial lift experience.
WHMIS, First Aid, or other safety certifications.
This is a full time position located north of Fort McMurray, AB at the Alex & Alice Boucher Fort McKay Industrial Park.
Shift Schedule: 14 on/ 14 off --All days- 12 hour shifts (Must be eligible to work on all sites)
