Saint John Energy is inviting applications for the role of "Power Line Designer" until noon on Thursday, December 18, 2025.
The Power Line Designer provides detailing and estimating for assigned projects; investigates insurance claims and street light requests. Provide liaison with various outside agencies; such as, City of Saint John, Bell Aliant and Rogers for information exchange and work coordination.
Critical Duties
Design and estimate overhead and underground renewal and capital projects
Undertake Key functions of Project Management
Acts as field administrator for major capital builds ensuring that project schedule, project budget, safety rules and specifications are followed
Provide liaison with outside contractors and Department of Labour
Designs and manages third-party work
Provides back up to Operations Support Roles
Duties
Develop and maintain a working knowledge of Saint John Energy policies, procedures, standards, rate codes and practices;
Liaise with electrical contractors and Department of Labour electrical inspectors regarding new services and upgrading, as per the Service Entrance Standards and CSA Standards;
Provide information on various aspects of customer service, (i.e. rate schedules and policies, service entrance standards, etc.);
Detail, estimate and prepare necessary documentation for expansion or alterations to distribution plant;
Tracks time to be invoiced to Aliant for joint detailing and project oversight;
Investigate and process rental and street lighting requests, and updates records as required;
Obtain permission and easements from property owners for the placement of Saint John Energy facilities;
Perform investigation into customer claims regarding Saint John Energy-caused property damage and prepare reports for review for insurance agencies;
Act as field inspector for underground installations by third parties (i.e. developers, City, etc);
Assist the Operations Department in the restoration of power on a twenty-four (24) hour basis;
Investigates customer complaints and initiates corrective action, i.e. radio interference, irregular power bills, abnormal voltage, etc
Cable locating support as required.
Employment Requirements
Must possess Trade Ticket in the utility industry
One year’s experience working in a customer-service based environment
Possess working knowledge of database management systems; e.g., GIS, CIS, MIS and SCADA
Must have excellent verbal communication skills
Complex duties, always required accuracy and attention to details
Ability to prioritize tasks
Ability to read, interpret and design blueprints and schematics
Strong problem identification and problem-solving skills
Possess valid drivers’ licence
