Job Description The Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tasks with moderate supervision. This role supports scientific investigations by preparing samples, conducting tests, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards. The technician will also assist in data analysis and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. Prepare samples, reagents, and solutions for analysis according to standard procedures. Perform routine laboratory tests and experiments following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and relevant standards. Accurately record, analyse and report test results in a timely manner. Assist in inventory management of laboratory supplies and reagents. Follow all laboratory health and safety protocols and best practices and guidelines. Ensure proper labeling, handling, and storage of chemicals and samples in accordance with Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). Adhere to internal standards, policies, and procedures. Clean, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment according to procedures. Troubleshoot instruments and testing methods as required. Document repairs, maintenance, calibration, and verification of laboratory instruments. Coordinate with vendors and service providers for equipment servicing and procurement. Coordinate work to maintain efficiency and ensure timely completion of laboratory tasks. Coordinate with other technicians to complete tasks according to the planned schedule. Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and knowledge-sharing activities. Support senior technicians and scientists in ongoing projects. Qualifications Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering Technology, or related field. 2-5 years of experience in a laboratory setting, preferably in a regulated industry. Experience with laboratory techniques, instrumentation, and processes, including the safe operation of testing equipment and strict adherence to laboratory procedures. Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and related regulations, with experience implementing safety practices in the workplace. Strong attention to detail with well-developed organizational and coordination skills to manage multiple tasks efficiently. Applies problem-solving and analytical thinking to complex issues. Excellent oral and written communication skills to interact effectively and efficiently with the team. Experience with LIMS or other laboratory data systems. Certified Technician (C.Tech) or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) is considered an asset (or eligibility).
