Job Description: In an environment that supports continuous improvement and under the supervision of the Communicable Diseases/Sexual Health Program Nursing Supervisor, the employee in this position provides investigation and the related follow-up of reportable and non reportable communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted disease, on a day-to-day basis. This employee examines patients for sexually transmitted disease and ensures that necessary examination and treatments are carried out. This employee provides HIV counseling and anonymous HIV testing for those clients requesting this service. This employee provides family planning information and counseling, and under the direction of the Medical Health Officer or Deputy Medical Health Officer, will provide specifically selected contraceptive supplies. This employee assists with liaison and referrals to other health personnel and agencies. Other duties include the promotion of educational programs for the public and other professionals and assisting with immunization as requested. The nature of the work requires a high degree of confidentially and tact. Duties also include responsibility for recording.

Experience
Minimum of 2 years recent experience as a public health nurse
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Other Education and Training
Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certificate (CPR)
Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)
Nursing diploma is acceptable
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Good knowledge of principles, techniques and practices governing public health nursing. Good knowledge of needs of healthy and unwell individuals. Considerable knowledge of prevention, transmission and treatment of communicable diseases, particularly of sexually transmitted diseases. Knowledge of communicable disease surveillance programs. Knowledge of public health laws and regulations and Population & Public Health Services policies relating to the control of communicable diseases, including sexually transmitted
diseases. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with agencies, physicians, co-workers and clients. Ability to perform technical nursing duties with skill and competence. Ability to maintain absolute confidentiality. Ability to make mature judgements of human behavior and to make decisions. Ability to plan and carry out duties with a minimum of supervision. Basic knowledge of epidemiology and epidemiological approaches to communicable disease control. Knowledge of family planning, methods
and counselling. Knowledge of community health and social resources. Ability to practice effective communication skills, written and oral. Ability to provide first aid in emergency situations. Ability to deal tactfully, non-judgmentally and effectively with people. Ability to be flexible and adaptable. Skill in maintaining and promoting health practices through effective contacts with physicians, school students, parents, senior citizens, professional groups and community organizations. Ability to establish and maintain
effective work relations as necessitated by work assignments. Willingness to accept supervision. Willingness to grow professional and personally.

Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
Must possess a valid driver's license. A shared SHA vehicle is provided for work related travel.
