Profile
The Avionics Engineering Specialist is responsible for coordinating all technical aspects of assigned design projects, providing technical support to the production line, and assisting Customer Support with resolution of in-service problems and customer requests. This includes engineering design, technical analysis, and airworthiness certification activities.
Duties & Responsibilities
Technical leader for the development and integration of new avionics functions and aircraft-level capabilities
Effectively work with cross-functional teams to plan and track feature implementation, risk and mitigations
Liaise with certification authorities both domestic and foreign through the airworthiness office to address certification issues as they arise
Prepare and define Technical Requirement Documents and Engineering Technical Assessments.
Prepare, review and approve Design Change Proposals.
Review and approve technical proposals and requirement specifications, design documentation including engineering drawings, modification summary packages and vendor equipment qualification reports.
Support aircraft test programs including writing Test Definition Sheets, aircraft equipment integration, aircraft test witnessing and subsequent test report development and review.
Prepare technical reports to show compliance to the applicable certification requirements. Ensure aircraft avionics airworthiness is maintained per required regulations.
Technically manage avionics supply chain relationships by supporting technical meetings and writing/receiving Engineering Coordination Memos.
Support aircraft production including problem solving and snag resolution.
Support in-service aircraft and operators by creating and reviewing engineering modification packages based on customer change requests. Support Service Bulletin development. Support in service aircraft fleet issues and investigations. Ie: addressing In-Service Difficulty Reports.
Mentor less experience Engineers in the department.
Education and Professional Qualifications
Bachelors or master’s degree in aerospace or Electrical Engineering
Current or candidate-for Aircraft Certification Delegate AP/DAR preferred
Experience
7+ years’ experience in the design, installation, integration, testing, and certification of aircraft Electrical and avionics modifications.
3 years’ experience supporting airworthiness certification under a TCCA framework of working knowledge of system design, test and certification requirements of aircraft auto flight, communication, navigation including FMS, indication/recording systems, cabin, and onboard maintenance systems.
Knowledgeable with civil airworthiness 14 CFR Part 23 & 25 avionics regulations and advisory material.
Knowledgeable with ARP4754 and ARP4761 is an asset
Knowledge of the RTCA standards DO-160, DO-178 and DO-254
Knowledge of Cybersecurity standards (familiar with DO-326B, DO-256A, DO-255A)
Demonstrated technical expertise and leadership in the aerospace industry
Ability to travel to Flight Test, Vendor or Operator sites.

Strong communication skills (written and verbal); can communicate at all levels of the organization and to all levels of our customer and representative organizations.
Intermediate user knowledge of MS Office Suite (MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
Proven experience in the design and certification of aircraft modifications
Support continuous improvement initiatives
Strong integration skills, in both system partner management and system technical integration
Excellent organizational and planning skills, you can set priorities in order to achieve important milestones.
