Job Overview:
EHN Willowview Recovery Centre is a new 60-bed inpatient addictions treatment facility, located about 20 minutes northwest of Regina and will provide adults 18 and older with holistic, wrap-around inpatient addictions treatment for up to 16 weeks.
As a vital member of our interdisciplinary team, the Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) plays a crucial role in delivering comprehensive patient care under the guidance of a Physician and the Nurse Supervisor. The RPN is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care, ensuring it is evidence-informed, trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, person-centered, and recovery-oriented.
The RPN collaborates closely with healthcare professionals in a safe and secure environment, ensuring quality care for patients undergoing treatment for mental health and addiction challenges. Much of the RPN’s role involves direct interaction with patients, fostering therapeutic relationships and support.
Job Function and Duties:
- Delivering client care according to the College of Nurses of Saskatchewan
- Reporting to the Nursing Supervisor, providing ongoing client care utilizing the nursing process of assessment, planning implementation and evaluation.
- Formulating and implementing client care plans.
- Safely implementing physician’s orders.
- Administering medications to clients.
- Maintaining current progress records on clients according to legal and ethical standards.
- Orientating, facilitating and reinforcing client’s involvement in addiction treatment.
- Decide and initiate on course of action in case of medical emergencies
- Providing supportive counselling to clients, families and/or significant others on typical recovery issues.
- Maintain a therapeutic environment on the unit conducive to the client learning productive patterns of living.
- Providing ongoing health teaching to clients in relation to common health problems and the clients maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
- Co-ordinate individual client appointments and referrals.
- Actively participate with team members in the assessment, planning and evaluation of the client and his care.
- Assisting the public with crisis intervention and information on addiction.
- Perform other duties as outlined on shift duty lists and as assigned by the Manager of Nursing and Patient Care.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychiatric Nursing or a related field from an accredited institution
- Completion of a recognized psychiatric nursing program
- Valid RPN license and in good standing in the province of Saskatchewan
- Clinical experience in psychiatric nursing or mental health settings preferred
- Familiarity with addiction treatment and recovery practices
- Current basic CPR
- Recent clinical experience, including medication administration and leadership duties
- Demonstrated ability to attend work on a regular and consistent basis Leadership /Charge experience preferred
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Good problem solving and decision-making skills
- Demonstrated use of proper body mechanics and ability to perform heavy lifting
- Knowledge of / experience with a team based person-centered care approach
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of the interdisciplinary team
