Assistant Co-ordinator, Neighbourhood Programs
Community Services department
(contract dates: June 1, 2026 to August 28, 2026)
Position description
The Town is seeking an Assistant Co-ordinator, Neighbourhood Programs to assist in the preparation and delivery of comprehensive summer Neighbourhood Recreation programs. This includes overseeing program planning, delivery and administration for the Town’s 2026 neighbourhood Block Box programs.
Job duties
Overseeing daily operations including set up, leading and participation in all neighbourhood recreation programs at various park locations throughout the Town of Orangeville through hands-on interaction with participants by planning and leading activities.
Acting as a resource to all neighbourhood staff on the inclusion of children with special needs.
Ensuring positive interactions of program participants by monitoring interactions and providing guidance as a caring adult.
Focusing on child development best practices by incorporating HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development into daily programming.
Assisting with the planning and implementation of neighbourhood programs training sessions with a focus on resources and support for all neighbourhood programs; greeting program participants, completing program check-in/attendance, assisting with communication with program participants or parents/guardians.
Communicating to the Supervisor regarding participant issues or concerns, facilities, staffing, equipment, supplies or other areas of concerns that may impact the safety and quality of the program.
Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Completed Grade 12
Enrollment in a program related to recreation such as Recreation and Leisure Studies, Education, Child and Youth Development, Early Childhood Education or related course of study would be an asset.
HIGH FIVE® Principles of Healthy Child Development certification.
Previous experience working with children, including a minimum of six (6) months of previous experience in a similar environment. Previous experience working with children in a recreation setting is considered an asset.
Current Standard First Aid / CPR.
Valid Driver’s Licence in good standing
The successful candidates will be expected to work weekdays, evenings and weekends depending on program and training needs. Mandatory training days are scheduled in June, and successful candidates must be available to work on Canada Day. Hours of work will be thirty-five (35) hours per week prior to the start of programs , and then ranging from forty (40) to forty-four (44) hours per week during camps, depending on business needs.
Hourly Rate: $20.40 to $22.07 (2025 rate)
