The External Relations Manager represents Vopak Canada externally and supports the company’s license to operate through effective relationship management with stakeholders including government representatives at the municipal, provincial, and federal levels. The role focuses on representation, advocacy, alignment, and issue awareness. From time to time, the role may also represent the interests of Vopak’s joint ventures, in accordance with joint venture governance and direction from Vopak Canada leadership. What do we expect from you as an External Relations Manager? 7–10 years of experience in external relations, stakeholder engagement, government affairs, or public affairs. Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Policy, Political Science, Indigenous Studies, Business, or a related field. Experience representing organizational interests with governments, communities, and external stakeholders. Experience in joint venture or multi-partner environments is an asset. Strong understanding of the Canadian political and stakeholder landscape. Existing relationships or a demonstrated network in Northern British Columbia and/or Ottawa are considered a strong asset. Excellent communication, judgment, and relationship-management skills. Ability to work independently while collaborating across teams. Willingness to travel domestically (approximately 25%). What does your day look like? Your core responsibilities are: External & Community Relations Represent Vopak Canada with local stakeholders, including community leaders, Indigenous groups, port authorities, municipal/provincial/federal government and industry organizations. Build and maintain constructive, trust-based relationships in communities where Vopak operates or is developing projects. Support engagement and information-sharing activities related to existing operations and growth initiatives. Act as a consistent and credible external presence for Vopak Canada and, where appropriate, its joint ventures. Government & Public Affairs Representation Represent Vopak Canada in interactions with municipal, provincial, and federal government representatives. Strategic Advisory & Internal Coordination Advise the Managing Director and senior leadership on stakeholder sentiment, external issues, and reputational considerations. Provide clear, timely updates on external engagement activities and emerging risks. Coordinate with internal teams (Projects, Commercial, Legal, HSSE, Communications) to ensure aligned messaging and engagement. Support development of stakeholder strategies, messaging, and briefing materials. Issues Management & Representation Support early identification of external issues that may impact Vopak Canada or its joint ventures. Prepare briefing notes, presentations, and correspondence for leadership engagements. Represent Vopak Canada at external meetings, forums, and industry events. Support issues or crisis communications in coordination with leadership and corporate communications. Support government engagement through coordinated meetings, briefings, and communications aligned with business priorities. Monitor political and public affairs developments relevant to Vopak Canada and share insights internally. Facilitate communication between government stakeholders and internal subject matter experts as required. Work Environment This employee generally works in an office environment, away from extremes of cold or heat. Limited to no exposure to noise and vibrations other than normal daily office sounds. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The employee should not have regular exposure to fumes, odors, toxic conditions, dust or poor ventilation.
