The following restrictions apply to all internship candidates:
Applicants must be available for a non-negotiable start date of Wednesday May 6, 2026.
Applicants must be 18 years or older.
Applicants must have housing accommodations or transportation in the Calgary area, as Precision does not provide internship housing.
By May 4, 2026, applicants must have completed at least their first year of study in a post-secondary program/Technical Institute (see job posting).
Summary
The Mechanical Engineering Intern will work a summer or Co-Op work term with Precision Drilling in both the office and field/shop environments. The intern will work closely with the Engineering team, comprising professional engineers, technologists, and operations personnel, to develop a practical understanding of drilling rigs and drilling operations.
Responsibilities
Work closely with the engineering team to support ongoing projects throughout Canada
Collaborate with the Engineering team and field/shop exposure as required by projects
Apply technical aspects of providing support to drilling rigs operating in the field and/or new equipment designs
Complete typical 2D & 3D design software packages, as well as the typical Microsoft Office suite of products
Knowledge & Skills
Excellent time management skills
Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
Great communication skills, both written and verbal
Ability to work well within a multi-disciplined team
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Valid driver’s license with a driving record in good standing
Education
Currently enrolled in an Engineering program, with a focus on Mechanical Engineering
Experience
Drafting/Design experience with AutoCAD and Inventor (or equivalent 2D and 3D software) is an asset
Experience with oil drilling rig equipment would be an asset, but not a requirement
Previous experience working in a hands-on and labor-intensive environment (farming, automotive, etc.) is an asset
