The Department of Community Health Sciences in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Black Community Research Coordinator. This Full-time/Part-time Fixed Term/Fixed Term Recurring Part-time position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
The Black Community Research Coordinator will coordinate a project that seeks to improve breast cancer screening practices among Black women. Using a community-based participatory action research approach, this project will examine the experience of Black women in accessing breast cancer screening in Alberta as well as co-develop, deliver, and evaluate actions to improve breast cancer screening in this population. This project is in partnership with the Africa Cancer Support Group.
When required, work hours may vary to reach changing deadlines, workloads, and priorities in a dynamic research environment. The selected candidate must be able to work two days a week onsite in Calgary. Travel across Alberta may be required.
Recurring Part-time employees are hourly employees engaged to perform work on an irregular schedule.
Reporting to the Principal Investigator.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Support participant recruitment
- Conduct focus groups
- Develop focus group and conversation cafA materials
- Contribute to development of training materials
- Complete ethics approval and amendments
- Draft reports and PowerPoint presentations
- Analyze data using NVivo software
- Coordinate patient navigators and health service providers
- Plan and coordinate meetings and events
- Book speakers and meals for events
- Collect data from participants and follow-up
- Process financial reimbursement
- Monitor timeline
- Coordinate knowledge mobilization activities
- Draft reports, develop PowerPoint presentations, and contribute to writing papers for publication
- Support community engagement activities
- Complete any other activities that ensure the progress of the project
Qualifications / Requirements:
- Master's degree or higher in Health Sciences, Social Sciences or a related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience coordinating research projects
- Minimum 2 years of experience coordinating or conducting research with Black communities
- In-depth knowledge of participatory action research, critical race theory and intersectionality
- Advanced skills in organizational management, including managing multiple priorities and a heavy workload
- Strong and effective communication, and interpersonal skills, both verbal and written
- Experience conducting focus groups
- Experience completing qualitative data analysis especially using NVivo software
- Strong track record in establishing and maintaining effective collaborative working relationships within a team environment, and with internal and external stakeholders
- Demonstrated publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Strong Computer Skills: Microsoft Office and NVivo
- Ability to speak French is an asset
