Postdoctoral Scholar position
Area: Structural determinants of health and climate justice
Duration: 1 year
Start date: May 1, 2025
Salary: $60,000 $CAD per annum, plus University of Calgary Plan C Health benefits
The Faculty of Social Work at the University of Calgary is accepting applications for a Postdoctoral Scholar in the Intersection of Structural Determinants of Health and Climate Justice for Youth in Alberta.
Job Description:
This is a full-time position based in Edmonton. This position is for one year only. The postdoctoral scholars must be able to work five days a week in Edmonton. The applicant must also be able to travel across sites.
Application to postdoctoral scholarships, such as CIHR and SSHRC award will be expected.
Duties will include the following
- Conduct literature reviews, literature search, scoping review, and systematic review
- Conduct a policy and equity analysis of policy documents that affect youth
- Apply an intersectionality perspective to policy analysis
- Recruit research participants
- Collect interview and focus group data
- Analyze data including with NVivo qualitative data analysis software
- Write papers for publication
- Develop and submit research proposals
- Apply advanced theoretical and/or analytical techniques
- Develop presentations for events, conferences and other knowledge mobilization products
- Manage ethics submissions, modifications and renewals
- Mentor and train research assistants and graduate students
- Coordinate and participate in community and stakeholder engagement sessions
- Develop data collection instruments including interview and focus group instruments
- Assist with research data management
¿ Attend research team meetings
¿ Liaise with community organizations
Qualifications:
- PhD degree in fields related to climate justice, intersectionality, social work
- PhD must have been awarded within the last seven years
- In-depth knowledge of climate justice, structural determinants of health, youth
- Experience working on qualitative research projects with youth in Canada
- Experience conducting scoping reviews or systematic reviews
- Track record of journal publications
- Outstanding writing skills in English
- Experience with qualitative data analysis including use of NVivo software
- Strong motivation to submit papers for publication in peer reviewed journals
- In-depth theoretical knowledge
- Ability to mentor undergraduate and graduate student
- High level of effective time management, personal initiative, and teamwork
- Demonstrated leadership, communication, organization, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
