Why Hydrostor?
Our cutting-edge A-CAES technology is uniquely positioned to revolutionize the energy landscape. Join us as we lead the way in shaping a greener, more sustainable future.
Your Mission
As the Senior Manager of commercial and business development at Hydrostor, you will be a key contributor to a lean, high-performing team focused on driving early-stage project development and advancing strategic commercial initiatives. This is a hands-on, execution-focused role for someone who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and can seamlessly shift between strategy, analysis, and implementation.
You will help shape new business opportunities, support early project development activities, conduct financial modelling, and contribute to commercial deal execution---including supporting contracting efforts. Your role will involve working closely with internal stakeholders and external partners to push projects forward, assess commercial viability, and ensure alignment with Hydrostor's strategic goals.
Your Day-to-Day Adventures
- Support the identification and development of new commercial opportunities, including conducting market research, stakeholder outreach, and preliminary project assessments.
- Contribute to the creation and execution of business strategies and go-to-market plans that align with company objectives and market dynamics.
- Communicate with potential customers and front-line originators to deeply understand their unique needs and challenges. Leverage this understanding to propose innovative solutions that meet and exceed customer expectations.
- Act as a key resource for internal negotiation teams (origination and business development), offering guidance on key contractual terms, potential risks, and adherence to company guidelines for power purchase and other key agreements.
- Lead and support financial modelling efforts to assess project economics, evaluate commercial terms, and inform decision-making across project and market opportunities.
- Drive execution of early development workstreams, including due diligence, real estate screening, permitting pathways, and regulatory assessments.
- Collaborate with business development, legal, technical, and finance teams to support and advance partnership discussions, commercial agreements, and procurement responses.
- Support internal reviews of deal structures and help prepare compelling presentations and internal memos for executive review and decision-making.
- Manage various project tasks and deliverables, applying strong project management discipline to track progress, coordinate stakeholders, and ensure timely execution.
- Assist in commercial contract development and negotiation, including offtake and land agreements, where required, while ensuring alignment with Hydrostor's broader commercial framework and strategic objectives.
Who You Are
You are a self-starter and problem-solver who can wear multiple hats and get things done with minimal oversight. You bring strong analytical and project management capabilities, a collaborative spirit, and an ability to manage multiple priorities with focus and follow-through. You understand the value of structure and process, but you're also comfortable rolling up your sleeves and figuring things out as you go.
Experience in renewable energy or infrastructure development is ideal, particularly if you've been involved in the early stages of project or market development. You're comfortable navigating ambiguity, building financial models, and supporting both strategy and execution in equal measure.
What You Bring
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, finance, legal studies, or a related field. An advanced degree or certification in a relevant area would be considered an asset.
- Bachelor's degree in business, engineering, finance, economics, or a related field; advanced degree or MBA is a plus.
- 5--8 years of relevant experience in business development, strategy, project development, or commercial roles, preferably within the energy, infrastructure, or related industries.
- Experience with power purchase agreement review, structuring, and negotiations.
- Strong project management skills with the ability to coordinate across teams and drive execution.
- Hands-on experience with financial modelling and commercial analysis.
- Experience supporting early-stage development efforts, including site assessment, stakeholder outreach, or regulatory diligence.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare presentations, communicate recommendations, and engage with internal and external stakeholders.
- Collaborative and adaptable mindset with a bias for action and problem-solving.
- Experience reviewing or supporting commercial agreements (offtake, land, or JV agreements) is considered an asset.
