Position Summary
General Duties Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the PI and research team to design and conceptualize studies, ensuring that projects are methodologically sound,
- Contribute to the development of study protocols, research questions, and theoretical frameworks,
- Leading the planning, organization, and implementation of multiple research projects, in collaboration with PIs at other institutes, universities, and provinces,
- Developing project timelines, milestones, and deliverables, ensuring adherence to deadlines and project goals, and coordinating and managing the logistics of all research activities, (e.g., tasks are completed on time and within budget),
- Providing guidance and supervision to, managing the work of, and delegating tasks to other team members (research assistants, data analysts, interviewers, students),
- Leading regular team meetings to track progress, identify issues, and ensure collaboration across projects,
- Serving as the primary point of contact between the PI and other key parties, including collaborating researchers, patient and community partners, and institutional staff,
- Working on qualitative research with team members to:
- Develop qualitative research methods,
- Select analysis techniques,
- Train team members on interviewing and research methods,
- Recruit participants, establish and maintain contact, and obtain informed consent,
- Collect data and conduct interviews,
- Participate in data analysis,
- Interpret findings.
- Mentoring and supporting research staff, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment, holding workshops or seminars on research methods and professional development,
- Providing research support: assisting with literature reviews and research tasks,
- Providing support for quantitative analysis, including data cleaning, statistical analyses, and interpretation of results,
- Drafting scientific reports and research publications,
- Preparing applications for grant and funding opportunities, ethics review, and contracts,
- Maintaining and organising project files, ensuring all documents are up-to-date,
- Collaborating closely and regularly with patient partners (people with dementia and their care partners), community partners (community organisations) to understand their needs and priorities and to conduct mixed-methods research alongside them,
- Contributing to research dissemination by writing and presenting both qualitative and quantitative findings in reports, manuscripts, and presentations for varied audiences.
Required Skills
- Excellent French and English, spoken and written,
- Strong understanding of mixed-methods research with proficiency in quantitative data analysis and statistical methods (e.g., SPSS, R, STATA, or similar software) and experience with qualitative data collection, analysis, and tools (e.g., NVivo, Atlas.ti),
- Knowledge of research ethics and compliance, including experience with ethics applications, institutional review boards (IRBs), and data privacy regulations,
- Experience with preparing funding applications for institutional, provincial, federal, and organizational grants, experience in doing so English and in French is a strong asset,
- Demonstrable experience in undertaking independent research,
- Exemplary writing skills with demonstrable experience in writing for academic and community audiences (e.g., publications, reports, grey literature, infographics, pamphlets etc),
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring skills, with experience supervising research assistants and staff,
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, experience working with patient and community partners is an asset,
- Autonomy (with minimum supervision after appropriate training), drive, initiative, creativity, curiosity,
- Team player,
- Detail-oriented, resourceful, strong problem-solving skills, multitasking abilities, organized.
The Following Are Assets
- Advanced knowledge of equity-related literature, including social determinants of health, intersectionality, and anti-racism,
- Experience working with historically marginalised populations,
- Prior experience in working with health administrative databases, causal inference methods, biostatistics,
- Proficient at using MS Office applications (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Forms, Teams, etc.), and reference management software,
- Experience with collecting qualitative data (e.g., interviews, focus groups, ethnography, case studies, etc.),
- Experience with hosting workshops and seminars, giving talks etc on various aspects of the research process, including study protocols, data collection techniques, and ethics.
