The Department of Cardiac Science in the Cumming School of Medicine invites applications for a Software Developer. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 11 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.
This position reports to the Principal Investigator.
This Software Developer will be a key member of the Data Intelligence for Health (DIH) Lab (https://cumming.ucalgary.ca/dih) and contribute to the technical development of an artificial intelligence-enabled clinical decision support system for patients with coronary artery disease. The Software Developer will focus the full-stack development of the system as a scalable software as a medical device (SaMD), vendor-agnostic data interface designs and implementations, and automated data compatibility assessment and system deployment. Rigorous software testing and documentation will also be required.
Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):
- Perform full-stack development of the clinical decision support system
- Research various clinical information systems' data interfaces
- Design and implement vendor-agnostic data interfaces
- Design and implement automated data compatibility assessment
- Design and implement automated system deployment frameworks
- Design and conduct quality assurance routines
- Manage and version control source code
- Create and maintain meticulous software documentation
- Plan, manage, and track technical tasks
- Manage own time effectively and ensure immediate reports to manager is kept informed of activities and progress of work
- Understand safety codes, standards, and systems related to specialization
- Establish and maintain effective, productive relationships with other team members, collaborators, immediate supervisor, senior management, and the campus community at large
- Demonstrate strong communication, project management, and teamwork skills, as well as an ability to exercise judgment within established guidelines
Qualifications / Requirements:
- A Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a relevant field
- Six months to two years of work experience in software development
- Proficiency in Svelte-Kit, Django, Python, SQL, TypeScript, JavaScript, React, HTML/CSS, Docker, GitHub
- Familiarity and experience with AWS
- Understanding of application and data security
- Understanding of Agile software development and the scrum framework
- Experience with high-performance computing and/or machine learning is an asset
- Demonstrated creativity and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently with limited supervision
- Strong organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
- Well-developed written/spoken communication and teamwork skills
- Research and development experience in an academic environment is a plus
