The practice is led by Principal Architects Peter Johannknecht and Gregory Damant. The firm's identity is rooted in their combined 60 years of practice with respected and award-winning firms in Victoria, Vancouver and Germany. Cascadia's areas of practice are broad, and include commercial, institutional, mixed use residential, interior design and custom residential.
Our focus is on urban and in-fill projects. Attention to good urban design principles and sustainable construction systems such as LEED and PassiveHouse inform our methodology. Basic key areas of focusThe Intern Architect contributes to the development of architectural designs and the production of construction documents, contributing to projects from conceptual stages through to execution.
They collaborate with senior architects, consultants, and contractors to ensure designs comply with building codes, regulations, and client requirements. They create detailed drawings, 3D models, and visualizations, as well as conduct site visits to ensure alignment with design specifications. On select projects, the Intern Architect will manage project tasks, workloads, and schedules for successful project delivery.

Working with great people in a positive and supportive environment. Flexible work schedule, between 30-37.5 hrs per week. Annual base salary range $70,000 - $85,000.

We Look ForEducationActive enrollment or commitment to enroll as an Intern Architect with the Architectural Institute of British Columbia (AIBC). A Master's Degree in Architecture from an accredited institution is preferred. ExperiencePrevious experience working in an architectural firm is preferred.
Student internships or relevant work in an architectural firm or related field is a strong asset. SkillsAdvanced communication and presentation skills for conveying design concepts to clients and teams. Advanced time management skills, including task scheduling and resource allocation.
Intermediate problem-solving skills to address design and technical challenges. Intermediate proficiency in design software, particularly Revit. Experience with Rhino, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite is an asset.
Intermediate understanding of building systems, materials, and construction methods. Fundamental knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and permitting processes. Fundamental knowledge of collaboration and coordination with multidisciplinary teams, consultants, and contractors.

Duties Design, Documentation and CommunicationCreate conceptual and design drawings using design software. Create 3D models and visualizations to support design presentations and reviews. Implement design changes based on feedback from the project architect, clients, project teams, or regulatory authorities.
Contribute to preparing comprehensive construction drawings and specifications. Prepare drawings and documents for permit applications, documenting compliance with local regulations. Conduct detailed code analyses and prepare documentation illustrating compliance with building codes and regulations for review by the Architect of Record.
Communicate with clients, consultants and contractors to ensure designs are coordinated and documented clearly. Collaborate with senior architects to address technical challenges during the design and construction phases. Research building materials, products, and systems to inform design decisions and project specifications.
Prepare for review: project specifications, confirming alignment with the design vision and quality standards. Attend site visits to observe progress and draft site visit reports. Project Management and Client Relations (as required)Manage tasks, workloads, and schedules for successful project delivery.
Prepare and assist in presenting design concepts and proposals to clients, clearly communicating ideas, addressing feedback, and managing client expectations. Track project progress, identify potential risks, and assist in adjusting the project as necessary. Organize and manage project documentation to ensure all files are properly labelled, formatted and filed.
Project Support and Administrative TasksParticipate in client and project team meetings, taking notes and contributing to discussions on design and project progress. Participate in ongoing professional development to enhance architectural knowledge and skills.
