Your opportunity:
As a Senior Financial Officer, you will be working closely with various departments across UTM to ensure that business transactions are aligned with general accepted accounting principles and the University's financial policies. You will also be involved in complex financial analysis. You will be bring a strong understanding of accounting principles and be able to apply them to various issues. You will also possess superior verbal and written communication skills and a high level of professionalism.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Interpreting and applying policies and procedures when making independent decisions
- Forecasting and planning financial activities incorporating budgets with multiple sources of revenue and/or recoveries
- Monitoring, recording, reconciling and/or reporting on funding accounts for grants and contracts
- Identifying and resolving individual financial discrepancies
- Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
- Overseeing the financial management of budgets that include strategic planning, analysis and forecasting
Essential Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree with emphasis in accounting or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
- Minimum five years relevant financial budget and accounting experience
- Demonstrated experience with budgets, forecasts and variance analysis
- Experience dealing with various levels in the organization
- Strong ability to identify critical issues and problem solve independently
- Excellent attention to detail
- Advanced computer skills: Microsoft Office: Excel (Advanced formula & functions, pivot tables), Word, Power point
- Excellent organization and time management skills and ability to prioritize tasks
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- SAP experience an asset
- Demonstrated cost accounting experience an asset

USW Pay Band 15 -- $95,627. with an annual step progression to a maximum of $122,290. Pay scale and job class assignment is subject to determination pursuant to the Job Evaluation/Pay Equity Maintenance Protocol.
