The Heart Function Program at UHN is recruiting a research associate to work on digital health equity projects with Indigenous communities and health authorities. The position involves community-based participatory research, supporting projects on health equity, digital wearables, and mobile applications to improve cardiac diagnosis and prognosis. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to transformative Indigenous health and digital health research at a leading cardiovascular institution.
Responsibilities include:
- Participate in protocol development, research design, and setting goals.
- Build relationships with community partners, guided by local priorities.
- Coordinate data collection and project activities.
- Assist in participant recruitment and enrollment.
- Optimize study workflows in clinical settings.
- Analyze data and draw preliminary conclusions.
- Understand research methodologies, including observational, mixed methods, and community-based participatory research.
- Familiarity with data analysis involving statistics and AI.
- Support interpretation of results and prepare presentations and publications.
- Review relevant literature.
- Support community engagement and project planning.
- Perform administrative tasks as needed.
The ideal candidate has advanced research skills, experience with community-based participatory research, and the ability to engage respectfully with Indigenous communities. They should be culturally safe, detail-oriented, and proactive in follow-up. Candidates should be prepared to discuss their cultural safety training and experience with digital health and health equity projects.
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Health Sciences, Indigenous Health, Public Health, Behavioural Science, Health Informatics, Human Computer Interaction, Design, Systems Design, or related field.
- At least two years of related experience.
- Research skills in protocol development, ethics management, data collection, and user experience evaluation.
- Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous research methods is highly valued.
- Technical skills in iOS and Android platforms, including wearables.
- Knowledge of health data infrastructure and digital health tools.
- Ability to support patients and providers in using health technologies.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams in a clinical environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom/Teams, statistical analysis, and R.
- Cultural safety, Anti-Bias, and Anti-Black Discrimination training is preferred.
