About The Role
Reporting to the SVP Exploration in our Toronto office, the successful candidate will have three main objectives: first, to deliver the estimation of the Company's Mineral Resources, working directly with resource geologists and site operational teams; second, oversight of the near mine underground exploration and grade control drilling activities, working closely with site operational teams; and third, to work with the corporate development team to provide geological support and due diligence for potential property acquisition and M\&A activities.
Position Responsibilities
Accountabilities and duties will include but not be limited to the following:
Geological Guidance \& Technical Expertise
- Provide expert geological guidance on resource estimation, with the objective of one day being able to sign off as QP.
- Develop and implement procedures for consistent lithological and structural wireframing to develop geological models suitable for resource estimation processes.
- Develop and implement procedures for consistent resource estimation and delivery of block models suitable for reserve estimation work.
- Work with SVP Exploration and Resources to undertake site-wide and third-party properties prospective assessments to evaluate gold endowment, discovery potential, and geological controls on gold mineralization at all scales.
- Work with SVP Exploration and Resources to conduct evaluations and interpretations of current projects and external third-party properties and projects (i.e., due diligence and acquisition evaluations in coordination with the Corporate Development team).
Exploration Planning \& Execution
- Work with site General Managers, Mine Managers, and Chief Mine Geologists to plan, budget, and execute near-mine underground drilling programs (exploration, grade control) to deliver on annual guidance for resource replacement and resource growth in line with corporate strategy.
- Promote the implementation of effective safety, health, and environment protocols throughout the exploration group and contractors (drill, geologic, geophysical) through interaction with local and regional teams.
- Generate RFPs/contracts/agreements and liaise with, and supervise, contractors and consultants as appropriate.
- Establish personnel and team structures to ensure suitable support to site geology teams and timely delivery of clean data.
- Timely delivery of resource models for use in mine planning and reserve estimation.
- Assist with corporate updates and press releases related to resource updates and exploration activities.
Team Development \& Operational Support
- Ensure manpower, training, and equipment is adequate to meet the Company's exploration goals.
- Provide mentoring to local teams as required.
- Leadership \& Team Management
- Lead a corporate geology/exploration team, managing personnel directly within the corporate office and remotely supporting site-based teams.
- Establish and maintain close working relationships with site-based geology and exploration teams, acting as both a technical leader and strategic partner.
- Foster a collaborative environment where technical best practices are shared across sites to drive continuous improvement in geological modeling, resource estimation, and exploration processes.
- Ensure team performance aligns with the corporate goals, while developing a strong pipeline of internal talent through coaching, mentoring, and technical development initiatives.
Qualifications -- Education, Experience, Certifications
- A recognized geoscience degree. Postgraduate program will be considered an asset. Membership of a recognized professional organization (APGO or equivalent).
- Minimum 15 years experience in the exploration/mining industry with a strong background in resource modelling in a high-grade, underground asset development.
- Strong geostatistical skills and proficiency with computerized resource estimation tools---ability to work with geo-modelling software such as Datamine, Leapfrog.
- Ability to compile large data sets to interpret geology, mineralized zones, and exploration potential.
- Demonstrated experience in geology and gold deposit models;
- Ability and willingness to travel to mining sites in remote communities.
- Working knowledge of French as a second language is an asset.
