We are seeking a Remedial Action Scheme (RAS) Specialist Engineer to join our operations team. In this position, you will provide direction and oversight for RAS design and integration across all regions, interface with teams across the AESO, as well as represent AESO at NERC and WECC. Reporting to the Manager, Operations Planning, you will work cross-functionally with internal business units at the AESO, including project management, system planning, system operations, project engineering, regulatory, legal, and tariff. You will also work externally with Transmission Facility Owners (TFOs), Distribution Facility Owners (DFOs), Generation Facility Owners (GFOs). Given the broad nature of this role, you may also interact with generation developers, large load transmission connected customers, and consultants. Accountabilities include but are not limited to: Provide support and guidance to engineers within operations and across the organization on the use of RAS, including anti-islanding schemes. Interface with the TFOs , DFOs, & GFOs on RAS design and operations. Lead and approve overall RAS design and direction for AESO for all projects, optimize existing RAS. Maintain RAS database and RAS process and provide input to System Controller Procedures updates. Identify and mitigate reliability risks due to RAS complexity. Create and deliver technical training to real-time operators and engineering staff. Act as requirement owner for ARS related to RAS. Mentor AESO engineers and technical staff. What you’ll bring to us: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited college or university, advanced degree an asset. Professional Engineer Accreditation (P.Eng.) with APEGA. 10+ years of electric power industry experience, in the electric utility industry, with experience in the areas of operations planning, power system models and analysis, protection and control, customer connections, transmission planning, and engineering economics. Critical understanding on the purpose of RAS in Planning and its use in Operations. In-depth understanding of ARS/ISO Rules and the Alberta electricity industry framework.
