SUMMARY OF POSITION
Our Finance Team thrives in a vibrant, busy, collaborative team environment at Kindred HQ. As part of our Finance Team, the Project Accountant will report to the Manager of Finance. The Project Accountant will be assigned a selection of construction projects to administer and will provide support to those Project teams, while working closely with other members of the Finance department.
We are currently seeking two Project Accountants — one Senior and one Junior — to join our team! Compensation will be reflective of each candidate’s experience and qualifications.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Support a portfolio of projects and teams on project financials as assigned by the Finance Controller
Meet specific timelines for issuing client progress billings monthly or as needed
Review project budgets and fee structures to ensure accuracy of work in progress
Manage vendor invoices for assigned projects
Prepare pre-billing reports for Project Managers to review
Work with trades and suppliers on project invoicing, holdback releases and associated documentation
Process holdback reconciliations for release of trade holdback payments
Ensure project close out procedures are completed timely; complete project filing as needed
Process and prepare accounts payable payments for assigned jobs as needed/directed
Provide excellent customer service while providing quality of work that consistently meets expectations
Build and maintain strong relationships with Project Managers, Coordinators and other members of the finance and Kindred teams
Ensure all assigned functions are carried out in compliance with approved policies, controls and standard practices
Implement procedural or software changes identified and rolled out by Senior Leadership
Other accounting duties as required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES
General accounting knowledge obtained through experience and/or education
Post-secondary degree or diploma in accounting, business or other related field, and/or;
5 years of applicable experience
Excellent problem-solving skills
Possess and maintain intermediate to advanced computer skills with proficiency in MS Word, MS Excel, and current accounting software (Spectrum by Viewpoint an asset but not required).
Ability to independently organize and prioritize workload to ensure timely completion of deliverables, and/or when to escalate concerns or issues
Ability to work effectively both independently and in a team environment
Willingness and initiative to learn from our Finance team to develop accounting skills such as the BC Lien Act and PST regulations relevant to the construction industry including attending internal or external courses as required
