The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is seeking seasonal Restaurant Servers to drive excellent customer experiences at the Grazer’s restaurant. This fine dining experience is open seasonally and is located at the heart of the zoo – positioned to welcome guests as they move across the island. Restaurant Servers will be responsible for the successful delivery of food and beverages to guests within our full-service catering department, including setting up and tearing down for events.

Contract:
Start Date: June 2025
End Date: September 2025
What you will do:
Answer questions about menu items and making recommendations upon request
Inform customers of daily/weekly specials
Take customers food and beverage orders and enters into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff
Check customer’s identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
Serve food or beverages to customers
Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems
Prepare bills that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes
Collect payments from customers
Fill salt & pepper shakers, sugar & cream, condiment and napkin containers
Set up server stations and dining areas to prepare for the next shift
Perform closing cleaning duties such as tidying up server station
What you will bring:
Experience in food & beverage service is preferred
Valid ProServe is required; must be 18 years of age
Friendly and outgoing towards colleagues and guests
Ability to complete work independently and as part of a team
Excellent written and verbal skills
Working Conditions:
Able to work in a fast paced environment
Labour intensive
Frequent walking and standing for long periods of time required
May be exposed to hazardous cleaning chemicals and supplies, hot food preparation equipment, smoke, and other hazardous conditions common to commercial food preparation areas.
Shift work required including late evenings, weekends, and holidays
The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo is an outdoor facility and all staff working at the zoo must be comfortable working in a large variety of outdoor conditions. The Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo follows the advice of Environment Canada when responding to temperature and air quality issues.
