Position Summary: The Supervisor of Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) ensures an infection prevention and control surveillance plan is in place, and evaluates and modifies the effectiveness of the plan, ensuring the evaluation of the IPAC Program is done annually. This position regularly reviews IPAC policies and procedures and revises as needed to reflect current best practices. This position provides leadership, consultation, and guidance to administration, committees, staff, and leaders regarding infection prevention and control. The IPAC Supervisor collaborates with relevant stakeholders, including but not limited to Local Public Health and Hospital partners to manage outbreaks. This position is responsible for coordinating and providing ongoing education to staff on new emerging infectious diseases and organisms, as well as coordinates seasonal immunization programs. The position is responsible for ensuring the home has sufficient PPE supplies and equipment and authorizes purchases of these supplies and equipment within the approved budget. This position reviews, analyzes, and tracks surveillance data, including outbreak investigations; runs reports; disseminates information; and modifies the Home's plan for improvement of practice and resident outcomes.
Employment Guide:
Post-secondary education in healthcare related field. Registered Nurse with completion of BScN or Registered Practical Nurse and registered in good standing with the College of Nurses Ontario is preferred but not required.
Current Infection Control Professional (ICP) certification. Certification from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology (CIC).
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in infection control in the Long-Term Care or Acute Care sector preferred. Member of National Infection Control Association (IPAC Canada)
Training and experience in Quality Improvement is preferred.
Training and experience in Adult Education is preferred.
Knowledge of epidemiological principles, statistics and microbiology and the ability to integrate this knowledge into clinical practice would be a significant asset.
Demonstrates effective leadership, communication, and problem-solving abilities
Ability to work in an outbreak environment.
Need to be flexible with hours if required.
Current CPR and First Aid is beneficial.
Solid understanding of adult learning principles and teaching methods to facilitate learning.
Ability to organize, plan, and work independently.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
