Position Description The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre (SMH) in Montreal’s Côte-des-Neiges borough. The SMH is a community hospital with an important teaching mandate for trainees in multiple disciplines including internal medicine, general internal medicine, and family medicine. As a Clinician-Teacher, the successful candidate’s major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians. Teaching activity will include both didactic and clinical teaching. Clinical responsibilities will include attending staff on the medical wards, general internal medicine consult service, and general medical outpatient clinic. Medical ward rotations involve daily presence, on-call duties, and daily rounds for periods of up to four consecutive weeks including weekends. The successful candidate will have expertise in one of the following areas: medical obstetrics, quality improvement or ambulatory medicine, with a focus on complex care. Candidates with a strong background in any other relevant medical field, provided their expertise aligns with the division’s strategic goals, will also be considered. We are seeking a professional with a proven track record in leadership, a commitment to excellence in patient care and a passion for advancing medical education. The ideal individual should demonstrate a capacity for fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement while maintaining a strong clinical acumen. The successful candidate will assume a leadership role in the development and delivery of educational initiatives at both the hospital and the Centre intégré de santé et de services sociaux (CIUSSS) levels. They will play a key role in organizing and enhancing the teaching of medical students, as well as postgraduate trainees in Internal Medicine. The position offers opportunities to expand expertise in medical education across various specialties and foster collaborations with other McGill institutions. In addition to their educational responsibilities, the candidate will be expected to lead and promote clinical innovation within the Division of General Internal Medicine. They will contribute to clinical research and quality improvement activities aimed at advancing medical practice at St. Mary’s Hospital. The successful candidate will also be responsible for assisting the division in tracking the leadership hours of departmental members to ensure compliance with the obligations outlined in the PREM-EDU framework. The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees). All McGill faculty members are expected to contribute to service activities within their units, the University, and the wider scholarly community. Qualifications and Education Requirements Hold an MD degree and must hold, or be eligible for, licensure in the province of Quebec; Have completed subspecialty training in General Internal Medicine; Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent); Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec; Have completed at least one additional year of clinical and /or research training, preferably in Medical Education; Possess strong interpersonal and leadership skills; Bilingual language skills (French and English) are preferred, or a commitment to acquire the necessary language skills to practice medicine in Quebec.
