Position Overview
We are currently seeking a seasoned Construction Safety Supervisor with a valid CSO designation and a minimum of 5 years of safety experience in construction roles in Canada. This role is responsible for leading jobsite safety efforts, ensuring regulatory compliance, and implementing best-in-class safety programs across all field operations.
This is a hands-on leadership role, working directly with crew leads, subcontractors, and project managers to uphold our rigorous safety standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership & Compliance
Champion a culture of safety-first behavior across all active projects.
Ensure compliance with WorkSafeBC, OH&S, and company-specific safety policies.
Provide training programs to field teams and supervisors
- Site Inspections & Hazard Assessments
Conduct and train regular jobsite inspections and detailed hazard assessments
Identify and eliminate unsafe work practices, ensuring corrective action is taken immediately.
Verify compliance with PPE protocols, tool safety, and environmental hazards.
- Incident Investigation & Reporting
Lead investigations for workplace incidents, near misses, and injuries.
Submit detailed reports and follow up on corrective actions.
Maintain incident documentation in line with regulatory and internal standards.
- Subcontractor & Crew Oversight
Ensure subcontractors are pre-qualified and safety-compliant before work begins.
Provide reports to company leadership and follow up on internal compliance
Support teams on-site navigating challenging situations
- Training & Onboarding
Lead new hire safety orientation and deliver/facilitate certification-based training (e.g., Fall-Pro, WHMIS, First Aid, Fit-test).
Deliver toolbox talks, refresher workshops, and emergency drills.
Serve as administrator and trainer for the SALUS safety software system.
- Emergency Preparedness
Ensure first aid kits, eyewash stations, and emergency gear are in place and accessible.
Implement and train teams on emergency response protocols.
Coordinate with First Aid Attendants in the event of onsite incidents.
- Program Development & Documentation
Assist in developing, refining, and auditing safety programs and policies.
Track and analyze safety KPIs to identify areas for proactive improvement.
Keep digital and physical records accurate and audit ready.
- Safety Culture & Communication
Organize and lead JHSC meetings and crew-wide communications.
Support Return to work programs in concert with HR Dept.
Stay up to date with regulatory changes, industry best practices, and emerging safety technology.
Support project teams with all project’s pre-qualification safety information and site-specific documentation (e.g. exposure control plans, Fall-Pro plans, Crane lift plans)
Required Qualifications
CSO (Construction Safety Officer) designation – REQUIRED
Minimum 5 years of construction safety experience (minimum 3 in Canada) – REQUIRED
Valid First Aid, WHMIS, and Fall Protection certifications – REQUIRED
Certification in COR Internal Auditor, Mask-Fit Test Provider, and Fall Protection Annual Inspection are considered assets.
Strong knowledge of WorkSafeBC regulations, OH&S legislation, and field safety protocols
Proficiency with safety management systems (e.g., SALUS)
Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to coach field crews and leaders
Comfortable working in dynamic outdoor job sites
Compensation & Benefits
Competitive salary: $75,000 – $90,000 per year, based on experience and qualifications.
Expense reimbursement for authorized work-related costs.
