If you are an out of the box thinker with a proven track record of working with Indigenous people in social services, mental health and addictions... Then you need to apply and join our Niigaaniin Team!
Under the direction of the Aaniish Naa Manager, the Cook attends all land base detox and treatment camps under Niigaaniin Services providing ongoing nutritional care to both community members partaking in the camp and employees supporting the camp.
The Cook coordinates with the Program Manager to create and prepare nutritionally balanced meal plans and meals for community members and employees attending the land base detox and treatment camps. The Cook is responsible for picking up all required ingredients, keeping track of kitchen inventory, following all food safety protocols, and coordinating with internal and external supports ie. Program managers and Nutritionist.
Requirements:
It is preferred for the applicant to be a registered band member of the First Nations serviced by Niigaaniin Services, including Batchewana First Nation, Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, and Wahnapitae First
Culinary Diploma,
One (1) years of experience working culinary environment would be an asset,
Superior oral and written communication skills, excellent time management skills with the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment,
Must be Proficient in MS Office Applications, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook and internet,
Current First Aid and CPR Certification,
Current Mental Health First Aid Certification,
Must have a clear Criminal Reference Check and Vulnerable Peoples Sector Check applicable to the responsibilities of this position.
Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is required for transportation to and from camp sites.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge and understanding of Anishnaabemowin, culture and traditions of Indigenous people of the Robinson Huron Treaty,
Familiar with community services networks and knowledge the Niigaaniin Services would be an asset,
Ability to work in a performance-based system with a proven track record of meeting targets and outcomes is essential,
Requires minimum supervision, able to work independently and maintains a supportive and cooperative environment with colleagues and the communities,
All candidates must be able to work with a diverse population,
Experience in using different cooking tools, equipment, and utensils,
Expert knowledge in various cooking methods and procedures,
Understanding of food preparation and meal planning,
Knowledge of food allergies/allergens and food related diseases, and the ingredients that may cause the allergy/disease,
Able to withstand long hours of standing, bending, and moving around,
Basic knowledge of mathematics to make correct measurements of ingredients,
Ability to follow recipe instructions,
Ability to safely uses cooking tools; knifes, cookware, bakeware,
Ability to work with internal and external partners; program managers, nutritionist etc.
