Job Title: Accountant
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate will act as a subject matter expert to assist other team members in resolving accounting discrepancies and inaccuracies for our tenants. You will ensure the preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements and the circulation of monthly results to owners, among other responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Act as a subject matter expert to assist other team members in resolving accounting discrepancies and inaccuracies for tenants.
Ensure the preparation of monthly bank reconciliation statements and circulation of monthly results to owners.
Prepare and file HST returns.
Process journal entries and perform general ledger account reconciliations.
Oversee the Month End and Year End accounting process for assigned portfolio.
Prepare and reconcile common area maintenance cost and property tax apportionment for tenants.
Process receipts of payments, cheque deposits, rent charges, etc.
Set up and maintain leases for tenants.
Monitor account receivables and follow up with tenants.
Monitor the budgets in assigned properties, investigate significant variances between budget and actual costs, follow up with stakeholders like Property Managers to explain variances, and escalate exceptions to management.
Participate in the preparation and analysis of financial reports.
Participate in year-end, interim, or ad-hoc audits by attending to audit enquiries and requests.
Participate in special projects related to the roll-out of software upgrades and new software modules.
Bring forward ideas for process improvements that will enhance operational efficiency.
Work closely with the Residential Management Team to ensure their needs are met with respect to the assigned portfolio.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Essential Skills
2-4+ years of general accounting experience
Experience in bank reconciliations
Proficiency in journal entries and financial reporting
Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field
CPA designation (or working towards it)
Strong problem-solving capabilities
Above average Excel skills with ability to develop dashboard reporting
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience in property accounts administration
Knowledge of real estate and property accounting
Experience with Yardi software
Proficiency in accounts payable and accounts receivable
Experience in variance analysis and budgeting
Ability to develop financial statements
Work Environment
This is an in-office role, working 5 days a week from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with some flexibility.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $65000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
Workplace Type
This is a fully onsite position in Hamilton,ON.
