Job DescriptionMachine parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.Calculate dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers and vernier calipers.Measure, examine, and test completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments such as micrometers.Set up, adjust, and operate all of the basic machine tools and many specialized or advanced variation tools in order to perform precision machining operations.Monitor the feed and speed of machines during the machining process.Study sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information in order to determine methods and sequences of operations needed to fabricate products and determine product dimensions and tolerances.Select the appropriate tools, machines, and materials to be used in preparation of machinery work.Maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.Prepare samples according to API, CSA, ASTM and ASME standards & customer or internal requirements.Directly responsible for their area housekeeping and cleanliness on a daily basis.Confer with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel in order to exchange technical information.Accountable for routine and non routine equipment maintenance.Responsible for ensuring all safety equipment related to machining is in place on a daily basis.Responsible for completion of task safety evaluations, near miss and hazard reporting as required.May be assigned and coordinate special or ad hoc projects as needed.QualificationsEducation: Journeyperson with recognized credential in Machining or an indentured apprentice in the trade of Machinist in Alberta.Experience : 1+ Years in a Machining role.Additional InformationSGS is an Equal Opportunity Employer, and as such we recruit, hire, train, and promote persons in all job classifications without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression and Indigenous status, or any other characteristics protected by law.
