Why You’ll Love This Role Lumentum is seeking to hire a Process Automation Software Engineer (Co-op Student) for our Ottawa based team. The position requires an on-site presence. The Opportunity 8 months : September 2025 to April 2026 12 months: September 2025 to August 2026 What You’ll Be Doing The student shall participate as a software developer on the Process Automation Software team, working on software applications & libraries in a team environment: Support the optical alignment team by delivering new features and bug fixes to the automated alignment software application; Work closely with process engineers on manufacturing automation, including: Hermetic sealing, MEMS mirrors testing, Liquid Crystal on Silicon panels (LCoS) inspection, optical block alignment, diffraction grating inspection, robotic manipulators, among others Write hardware drivers for new instrumentation and test equipment; Become familiar with manufacturing processes, and run manufacturing tests in the lab to validate new feature development; Work self-sufficiently or in a small team to deliver technically challenging solutions; Applying best practices throughout the software lifecycle; Solve complex problems in multi-disciplinary teams; Investigate, document, and resolve software failures; You will have a positive impact on our success by: Contributing to the ongoing development of automated solutions for the manufacturing of our next generation optical transport products; Solving complex technical problems; Working in close collaboration with other teams, such as the Optical, Hardware, Mechanical, Software, and Firmware R&D teams; Improving the quality and robustness of manufacturing automation software. What We’re Looking For Recommended Education: Graduate level or 3rd/4th year undergraduate student pursuing a degree in Engineering, Engineering Physics, Computer Science or equivalent.
