ABOUT THE ROLE
The Senior Estimator within the Vancouver Infrastructure division has direct accountability for the preparing, submitting and tracking of estimates for the commercial, industrial, municipal, provincial and federal segments. The Senior Estimator plays a key role in securing work and projects for the Infrastructure division in the Greater Vancouver Area. Directly contributes to a “One Lafarge” vision by incorporating and utilizing all of Lafarge’s materials into bids. A Senior Structural Estimator is expected to have strong technical knowledge of structural systems, and heavy civil construction experience, extensive and strong estimating software usage, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously. The Senior Estimator contributes to organizational excellence by continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration and empowerment enabling continuous improvement.
WHAT YOU’LL ACCOMPLISH
Direct liaison with customers, consultants and owners. Ensure that client satisfaction has been achieved. Strong understanding of Contracts and Customer Negotiations. Attend pre-tender site meetings/visits to determine if any additional site issues can impact production.
Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates based on efficient construction practices, and using the most competitive and reliable subcontractors and suppliers
Responsible for technical estimating – including quantity take offs and estimating systems; vendor and subcontract management systems, internal material processes, indirect cost aspects, overhead and product distribution methods. Use of templates, tags, as well as coding and estimate transfer
Responsible for contract administration including Request for Proposals (RFP), Request for Qualifications (RFQ), tendering process, contracts, drawings, insurance and bonding. Ideal Strong understanding of claims / legal processes and deliverables is preferred
Prepare final bid, complete with proposed mark-up based on market conditions, Lafarge policy and in conjunction with the Estimating Manager and/or General Manager
Identify potential cost-saving measures, i.e. value engineering opportunities, while ensuring compliance with safety, quality and regulatory standards
Job set-up for all projects estimated and awarded to Lafarge, including credit approval, schedules, pre-construction meetings, subcontract agreements, purchase orders, as well as internal job setup for operations and accounting
Management of Estimates and awarded projects for larger Heavy Civil, Hwy, Port, Rail and ICI work, varying from $500,000 to $50 M
Monitor project costs and financial reports. Provide feedback to operations and estimating departments
Identify potential risks (e.g., design issues, project delays, material shortages) and incorporating contingencies in cost estimates to mitigate these risks. Analyze the potential impact of changes during the project lifecycle and adjusting estimates accordingly
Interfaces closely with al Project Managers, Project Coordinators, Superintendents, Estimators and Contract Administrator, works closely with Operations Superintendents, advises General Manager on bid dimensions

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
Education: Diploma or Degree
Additional Education Preferred: N/A
Field of Study Preferred: Business or Engineering – either technical college or university
Required Work Experience: Minimum of 7 – 10 years of estimating experience in the Heavy Civil Industry
Required Training/Certifications: N/A
Required Technical Skills: Estimating software, specifically Bid2Win (B2W)
Travel Requirements: Within the Greater Vancouver Area
Additional Requirements:
Must have recent estimating experience with bridge structures (steel, concrete and pre-fabricated), retaining walls, slabs, miscellaneous structural works, interchanges, rail systems, port systems. Experience with Civil construction, namely gravel, concrete and asphalt – understanding yields, productivities, scheduling and quality control is an asset. Must have understanding of pre-construction phasing, survey, grades, string line, equipment capabilities and machine control
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills
Strong communication, negotiation and change management skills
Good knowledge of Paving, Asphalt and Construction industry
Ability to foster and grow a strong safety culture

Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests
WHAT WE OFFER
Base Salary between $120,000 - $130,000
Bonus opportunity of up to 20% of base salary (up to $26,000)
