Hours of Work 10 hours per week Department Transportation Services Location This position is required to work in person at various sites across the city, outdoors in all range of climate conditions. Work location is subject to change at the discretion of the City due to operational demands. Position Overview The City of Burlington is looking for candidates who are interested in serving their community while earning extra income as a School Crossing Guard or a Spare School Crossing Guard. This is fun, active, outdoor work performed on school days only- NO nights, NO weekends, NO holidays required! School Crossing Guards work in our community at designated locations to assist Burlington's school children in getting safely to and from school. Spare school crossing guards may be required to have access to their own transportation as they may be required to work at various locations around Burlington. Spare crossing guards cover sickness, vacations, vacant locations. The City stations School Crossing Guards at Council approved locations. This position works two hours a day (one in the morning and one in the afternoon) from September -June. The uniform and on the job training is provided. Responsibilities School Crossing Guards play an important role in: Assisting students in safely crossing the street at designated locations from September to June on a Monday to Friday for one (1) hour in the morning and one (1) hour in the afternoon, dependent on school start and end time. School Crossing Guards do not work during PA Days, school, and public holidays. Working in the heat, cold, rain and snow to help children to and from school. Requirements Applicants must have the ability to: Speak English fluently. Be available to work one (1) hour in the morning and one (1) hour in the afternoon times relevant to the school in the specified area of work. Performing the physical aspects of this position, including standing and walking for prolonged periods of time and carrying a small stop sign. Additionally, School Crossing Guards should possess strong customer service skills and a safety conscious attitude. All uniforms and equipment are supplied. There is a training period on the job. In addition to an hourly compensation, successful applicants will also be paid a portion of mileage. Police Check Requirement This position requires the successful candidate to provide a clear criminal record check with a vulnerable sector screening at their own expense.
