We’re looking for an experienced Arborist to help shape and sustain Leduc’s urban forest. Reporting to the Manager, Parks & Open Spaces, you’ll play a hands-on role in tree care operations—pruning, planting, diagnosing issues, and responding to service requests across parks, boulevards, and natural areas. This role offers variety and autonomy. One day you might be climbing to remove damaged limbs, the next you’re coordinating a planting project or advising a contractor. You’ll operate tree care equipment, support safety practices, and occasionally represent the city at community events. Your knowledge of arboriculture, WHMIS, OH&S, and safe work practices will be key to protecting both the urban canopy and public spaces. What will you do? As an Arborist with the City of Leduc, you’ll support the health and growth of our urban forest through hands-on, year-round work. Your key responsibilities will include: Operating specialized tree care equipment (e.g., aerial lift truck, chainsaws, stump grinder, skid steer) Performing tree pruning, removals, and maintenance in accordance with ISA standards Conducting site inspections, identifying hazards, and mitigating risks (e.g., cabling, bolting, removals) Diagnosing and treating plant diseases or insect infestations using appropriate tools and treatments Training and guiding assigned staff in arboriculture techniques and safety protocols Completing paperwork related to OH&S, equipment inspections, and daily work logs Liaising with developers, contractors, and the public on tree care, planting standards, and maintenance best practices Assisting with the planning, planting, and establishment of new trees Supporting special projects such as Tree Canada grants or local tree-planting events Who you are? You’re a hands-on professional who’s passionate about tree care and thrives outdoors. You bring a strong work ethic, arboriculture expertise, and the ability to work safely and independently. You have: ISA Arborist Certification (required) High School diploma (required); post-secondary education in forestry or horticulture is an asset 3+ years’ experience in arboriculture or municipal tree care operations Valid Class 5Q Driver’s License with a clean abstract Pesticide Applicator’s License and supervisory experience (assets) Strong communication skills and a commitment to safe, efficient work Flexibility to work occasional evenings, weekends, or stand-by shifts What we Offer?
