Senior Security Platform Engineer

What is in it for you:
• Salaried: $60-71 per hour.
• Incorporated Business Rate: $73-83 per hour.
• 12-month contract with the potential for permanent employment.
• Full-time position: 37.50 hours per week.
• Work schedule from 9 am to 5 pm.
• Location: Hybrid – Toronto or Waterloo (1 day/week onsite)
Responsibilities:
• Serve as subject matter expert in Akamai security products, including WAF, Kona Site Defender, Bot Manager, and Prolexic DDoS protection.
• Design and implement scalable, secure architectures for web applications using Akamai technologies.
• Continuously tune and enhance Akamai configurations to optimize security and performance.
• Monitor and mitigate real-time security threats such as bot attacks, DDoS campaigns, and web-based exploits.
• Develop response playbooks and implement automated remediation workflows.
• Create and refine custom WAF rules and policies based on evolving threat landscapes.
• Automate security processes and policy management using tools and scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash).
• Collaborate with DevOps, application development, infrastructure, and security teams to align solutions with business needs.
• Mentor junior engineers and guide best practices in security operations.
• Lead forensic investigations and post-incident reviews with detailed root cause analysis.
• Ensure compliance with regulations such as PCI-DSS and GDPR through secure configurations and reporting.
• Lead key security projects including migrations, upgrades, and implementation of new Akamai features.
• Stay current on emerging web security threats, Akamai advancements, and best practices.
What you will need to succeed:
• A university degree or college diploma in Information Technology or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
• Preferred certifications: CCNP, CCNP-Security, CCSP, CISSP, GIAC-GCIA, GIAC-GCED, CompTIA Security+, or other recognized security credentials.
• 5–7+ years of experience in information security and engineering with enterprise-level security technologies.
• 3+ years of experience leading global information security projects.
• Deep knowledge and hands-on experience with Akamai Web Application Firewall (WAF), Kona Site Defender, Bot Manager, and Prolexic DDoS protection.
• Experience in at least one of the following areas: Perimeter Security, Endpoints, Cryptography, Cloud Security, Email Security, Security Visibility, Automation, and Orchestration.
• Strong understanding of web security principles and threats, including the OWASP Top 10.
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or Bash for automation purposes.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills in agile, cross-functional environments.
