Compensation: $3,000 per month
We’koqma’q First Nation is seeking a responsible, compassionate, and community-minded individual to serve as a Dog Control Officer. This role is essential in promoting public safety, animal welfare, and responsible pet ownership in the community. The position combines field response with community education and administrative reporting.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Field Duties (As Needed):
Respond to reports of stray, aggressive, or neglected dogs.
Enforce community bylaws related to dog control and animal welfare.
Capture and safely transport stray or dangerous dogs.
Coordinate with local shelters, veterinary services, and other agencies as needed.
Office Duties (10–15 hours/week):
Maintain detailed incident logs and case files.
Prepare monthly reports summarizing incidents, actions taken, and outcomes.
Develop and deliver community outreach and education materials.
Attend scheduled check-ins and planning meetings with leadership.
Community Engagement:
Promote responsible pet ownership through education and outreach.
Participate in community events and awareness campaigns.
Build positive relationships with residents to encourage compliance and cooperation.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES
Experience working with animals, particularly dogs, is preferred.
Knowledge of animal behavior and safe handling practices.
Strong communication and conflict resolution skills.
Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle.
Physically fit and able to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
Must be willing to undergo a background check.

WORKING CONDITIONS
This is a flexible, part-time contract position with both scheduled and on-call responsibilities.
Office hours (10–15 hours/week) are required for administrative tasks and planning.
Field work may occur during evenings, weekends, or holidays depending on community needs.
Work is performed both indoors (office setting) and outdoors in various weather conditions.
The role may involve handling aggressive or injured animals and requires physical stamina and caution.
Use of personal vehicle is required; mileage reimbursement is provided.
Must be available to respond to urgent calls on an as-needed basis.
