We are seeking energetic and knowledgeable people to deliver safety education programming throughout Strathcona County. While working with the Community Safety and Preparedness Coordinator, the Community Safety Educators are responsible for providing exceptional customer service and subject matter knowledge in safety programming to support the needs of residents, businesses, and community groups around Strathcona County.
Key Responsibilities
Delivers Community Safety Education presentations to residents, Strathcona Employees, businesses, industry and community groups in a variety of settings
Maintains a safe and positive learning environment
Contributes to the success of the Community Safety Division by providing reports on presentations and activities, collects evaluations for the Community Safety and Preparedness Coordinator and participates in team meetings
Assists in the development, delivery and marketing of safety messaging to the public
Assesses materials to enhance educational opportunities, and provides feedback to the coordinator for quality improvement of the delivery of the programs
Represents Emergency Services and the County at community events, monitors and ensures quality, leads by example and adheres to corporate best practices, provides information to stakeholders
Attends training to increase knowledge through demonstrations, skills development and feedback
Qualifications and Skills
High School diploma and one year of related experience in community volunteering
Post-secondary diploma in the field of education or Certification as a Public Safety Educator would be an asset
Experience with public speaking and education delivery to a variety of groups
Basic Emergency Management Course and Local FireSmart Representative training would be an asset
Superior interpersonal and customer service skills, with the ability to handle confidential matters in a discreet and professional manner
Independent problem solving and decision-making ability
Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
Conditions of Employment
Submission of satisfactory Criminal Record Check
Valid Alberta Class 5 Driver’s licence and submission of a 5-year Driver’s Abstract with less than 7 demerits
Valid CPR/First Aid and defibrillation certifications
Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
Ability to deliver programming during a variety of shifts, primarily evenings and weekends as required for events
