Who We Are
Simon Fraser University is a leading research university, advancing an inclusive and sustainable future. Our purpose – the essence of SFU – is to create and connect knowledge, learning and community for deeper understanding and meaningful impact. We are committed to fostering excellence, innovation, belonging and community in all that we do.
The Community Engagement and Dialogue Unit’s (CE&D) mission is to convene evidence-informed conversations on the world's complex challenges, and expand the capacity for mutual learning, engaging across difference, co-creation, and shared problem solving. This unit fills a crucial role within SFU and at the interface between SFU and external communities.
About the Role
This role will be a vital member of the programming and communications team at the CE&D unit. This position is ideal for individuals who are passionate about community engagement, dialogue, and creating productive, inclusive and accessible conduits for knowledge exchange, critical thinking and fruitful collaboration among academics, practitioners and the public. This role provides the opportunity to learn more about, and contribute to, issues of public concern and work in a emergent, dynamic, project-based hybrid team environment located SFU Vancouver's campus but serving all 3 of SFU's campuses and community.
The ideal candidate will approach their work, and their colleagues and collaborators, with a spirit of flexibility, hospitality and generosity, knowing that event based work is inherently challenging, due to its detailed and deadline oriented nature. An enjoyment of working with people is essential, and this role includes the expectation of active participation at our programming. The CE&D Unit embraces a reflective growth culture, with encouragement for all to learn, adapt and share knowledge, and an openness to change, experimentation and continuous improvement at all levels.
