Overview
As part of the Sanitary and Stormwater Utilities Division, you will be
responsible for the operational maintenance of sanitary and stormwater
infrastructure, such as pumping station maintenance, flushing pipes, clearing
blockages, maintaining watercourses, repairing and replacing sanitary and
stormwater sewers and associated structures, repairing and/or replacing
maintenance holes and catchbasins, and performing stormwater management facility
(SWMF) maintenance and construction.
Successful applicants will be placed in the job based on their licensing,
training and experience:
Wastewater Collections Operator I: $31.47 – $33.32 hourly
Wastewater Collections Operator II: $34.38 - $36.41hourly
Wastewater Collections Operator III: $37.89 - $40.12 hourly
Responsibilities
- Performs flushing and cleaning of storm and sanitary pipes and structures.
- Clears sanitary blockages from residential and commercial services.
- Performs pumping station maintenance and repairs. Monitors, tests, and
inspects components to ensure system is working in a safe and efficient
manner in accordance with operating manuals and procedures.
- Ensures the wastewater collection system is monitored, operated, maintained,
tested, and adjusted to maintain compliance.
- Repairs pumps as required, including replacement of parts and pump
rebuilding.
- Responds to alarms and calls related to pumping station operation;
troubleshoots, determines, and takes proper action to resolve problem.
- Maintains records, logbooks, and equipment readings related to the
maintenance, inspection, operation, and repair of the wastewater collection
system.
- Performs confined space entries to inspect, maintain, or repair the
wastewater collection system.
- Inspects, Maintains and repairs watercourses.
- Performs stormwater management facility (SWMF) maintenance, including removal
of sediment and repair of associated structures.
- Repair/replacement of sanitary sewer and sewer laterals, stormwater sewers,
maintenance hole and catchbasin structures, inlet/outlet structures.
- Will be required to participate in on call rotation.
- Ability to learn wastewater collection systems and sewage pumping stations,
their components, operation, and maintenance requirements.
- Ability to learn SCADA systems and the ability to configure and monitor the
system.
- Ability to learn proper operation of safety equipment including fire
extinguishers and gas monitoring devices.
- Ability to learn pneumatic, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical
equipment/systems to troubleshoot and solve operational problems.
- Ability to troubleshoot and diagnose station failures/alarms and determine
proper course of action/repair.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings as they relate to the
wastewater collection systems and associated facilities.
- Ability to participate as an effective team member.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum Grade 12 diploma or equivalent.
- Valid MTO "DZ" class driver's license in good standing.
- Ability to successfully complete required job progression criteria as it
relates to this job title, including passing the Ministry of the Environment,
Conservation and Parks (MECP) OWWCO Wastewater Collection Class I License
exam (70% pass) within 12 months of hire.
- Wastewater Collection Operator I’s must progress to Wastewater Collection
Operator II.
- Must score a Level 3 or more on the TOWES assessment.
- Must be a competent person as defined by the Ontario Health & Safety Act.
- Must be available for "on call" duty and winter call outs as required. This
includes ability to respond to site within 45 minutes of a call.
- Reliable with a good attitude and employment record.
Candidates will be required to complete the TOWES assessment
