PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.
Our PRESTO’s Technology and Integration group is looking for a Data Platform Architect for Cloud hosted Solutions. This Architect provides architectural and engineering leadership in Data Platform Infrastructure by envisioning capabilities, creating business cases, architectural roadmaps and detailed designs aligned with Metrolinx Enterprise strategy in collaboration with Enterprise architecture and other stakeholders. Cloud Data Platform Infrastructure includes but is not limited to Private Clouds, Public Clouds, Hybrid Clouds, Multi-Cloud, Software Defined Network, Infrastructure-as-Code, Infrastructure-as-a-Service, Platform-as-a-Service and Software-as-a-Service such as Databricks, ADF, Medallion Lakehouse. Ensures the Data Platform Infrastructure provides solid foundations to innovate and deliver world-class solutions to Metrolinx stakeholders.
What will I be doing?
Collaborates with Enterprise Architecture, Product Managers and other stakeholders to conduct needs assessments, identify future capabilities, and develop future state Data Platform within Cloud Infrastructure architecture with roadmaps
Design, architect, deliver and support Data Platform within Cloud Infrastructure with high availability and disaster recovery capabilities that meet business continuity requirements using Azure services such as (not limited to) ADF pipelines, Spark Pool, Databricks, Fabric, Azure Virtual Machines, Azure App Services, and Azure Kubernetes Service
Develops and documents business case for identified needs, proposed roadmaps and future state Data Platform within Cloud infrastructure
Proactively identifies opportunities to improve efficiencies, effectiveness and build capabilities aligned with organizational objectives and identifies strategies to address the technical blockers
Provides hands-on implementation to validate designs and to assist with Data Platform Infrastructure build
Participates in organizational improvement initiatives such as Capability Maturity Model (CMM), and champions/ assists in aligning and progressing related activities in Cloud Data Platform
Provides thought leadership, communicates and champions the adoption of evidence-backed best practices, processes, new concepts and emerging Data Platform technologies to stakeholders
Communicates and provides support to both internal and external clients to enhance and achieve organizational goals
Liaises with internal departments regarding operational issues or improvements, and provides subject matter expertise to management team on as required
Develops, fosters and maintains relationships with provincial ministries, municipalities, external authorities, private companies and the public to facilitate the advancement of organizational objectives
Establishes and maintains quality control and assurance on assigned projects; ensures deficiencies are addressed immediately and minimizes corporate liability by working with internal stakeholders to identify and manage risk and resolve escalating issues
Drives innovation by reviewing and analyzing processes to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement
Provides cost benefit analysis to business cases
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
Completion of a degree or diploma in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience contributing to the success of midsize-to-large initiatives with above average levels of complexity and business criticality
Public Cloud Certification (Azure) at professional/advanced level is required
TOGAF Certification is an asset
Experience with Cloud IaaS and PaaS (preferably Azure)
Experience with implementation of CI/CD pipelines, to streamline application deployment and updates, including data processing workflows in Azure Databricks and setting up Lakehouse with Medallion-Lake architecture.
Experience with Identity and access management such as Active Directory, Azure AD and Okta
Experience with Infrastructure products – as SCCM, SCOM, Ansible, Terraform, etc.
Familiar with current and emerging Data Platform technologies within Cloud Infrastructures
