The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists to join the ARIS GBTAC team in the role of Research Assistant. Reporting to the Green Building Technologies Operations Lead, this position will work closely with the Principal Investigators of Smart Energy Management Systems, Building and Material Science, and Environment. The ideal candidate is enthusiastic, adaptable, resourceful and interested in sustainable development. Valuable traits include a keen eye for detail, proficiency in problem solving, exceptional organizational and communication skills, and fluency with Microsoft Office. Past experience with team support, project coordination, engagement with Indigenous communities and residential or commercial building design or construction is advantageous.

The Role
Project Work, Subject Matter Expertise
Apply hands on experience and expertise towards meeting industry project deliverables.
Support building performance monitoring activities and data analysis, technical support and report writing related to GBTAC research themes including building energy systems, building integrated renewable energy, smart building management, net zero energy, and building science and materials.
Create materials lists, create budgets, and source materials, as needed
Read and work with building design documentation in order to integrate visual feedback into documents prepared by others.
Support and write content as necessary for Federal and Provincial grant fund applications
Support SAIT departments and other applied research team members on an ongoing and as needed basis to ensure project execution and completion are appropriately executed and measured for consistency, quality and thoroughness.
Support and write content as necessary for curriculum development and training materials that support research outcomes.
Collaborate with the whole project team, contributing to the entire project lifecycle
Organize and maintain schedules and see that assigned deadlines are met
Report progress updates verbally and in written form to management, as needed
Complete any necessary administrative tasks such as time tracking
Demonstrate commitment to client’s needs and confidentiality
Education and Networking
Participate in seminars and other organized scientific and technology discussions.
Pursue other activities that maintain and advance professional growth. These activities may include attending workshops/seminars, conferences, and presenting project information (as needed).
Networking and engagement activities including supporting tours of the GBTAC facility, presentations and associated preparation, and working with Indigenous communities.
Qualifications
Minimum Required
Diploma and/or degree from a recognized university or technical institute in a relevant field
Experience or familiarity with building science principles and building energy systems.
Experience or familiarity with preparing building design documentation
Experience or familiarity with basic construction practices
Recent graduate
Preferred
Engineering Technologies, Architectural Technologies, Environmental Technologies
Experience with data analysis
Experience with technical writing
Experience with material testing and analysis
Experience with GHG emissions analysis or embodied carbon analysis
Experience with building energy assessments
Registration or professional certification such as Passive House Designer, a LEED® professional credential, Certified Energy Manager, Engineer In Training, or Certified Technician
