Position Summary:
We are seeking a supportive roommate for a male individual with multiple diagnoses including Pervasive Developmental Disorder, FASD, ADHD, scoliosis, an enlarged heart, Seasonal Affective Disorder, sleep apnea, severe anxiety, and PTSD. The individual is largely independent but requires guidance with daily routines such as personal hygiene, medication checks, cooking, and maintaining a clean living space. The role involves providing emotional support and a stable home environment, as well as transportation to and from a community access program in Cochrane five days a week—preferably in a larger vehicle like an SUV or truck due to the individual's size. The individual is verbal but may struggle with emotional regulation during stressful times, so patience and empathy are essential.
Responsibilities:
Build positive relationship and rapport with the individual
Provide emotional and behavioral support to the individual
Socializing and providing consistent emotional support
Supporting and assisting the individual with his job search
Assisting with home living tasks such as cooking and food prep
About You:
You are someone who is compassionate, attentive, easy going, patient and has a passion for working with people with disabilities. You have previous experience working with mental health. You are able to remain calm, patient, and diffuse situations effectively. You have proven critical thinking skills and aren’t afraid to try new things. You have a person-centered approach and will take the time to really get to know your client and act in their best interest, while maintaining professional boundaries.
Rate of Pay:
The monthly pay will be $4,349.67 The Individual has four respite days per month. The respite will be $163.50 per 24 hours. Maximum to be invoiced $654.
Location & Home Environment
It is highly preferred that the successful candidate resides within the Cochrane area, as the role involves a significant amount of driving. We are specifically looking for potential homes in Cochrane, and residency in this area is preferred. A bedroom for the individual on the main level or in the basement is preferred to ensure comfort and accessibility. The home environment should promote a calm and peaceful atmosphere, allowing the individual to maintain his independence while receiving occasional guidance and emotional support as needed.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum of a Diploma or Certificate in the Human Services field or Disability Sector
Must have valid class 5 drivers license and a reliable vehicle with minimum $2,000,000 liability insurance
Provide Home insurance and Commercial Liability insurance
One to two years relevant experience in the human services field
Intermediate in computer skills
Minimum required training in Emergency First Aid & CPR Level A
Willing to make appropriate modifications for the individual’s access requirements in the home
Home visit & assessment required
Preferred Requirements:
Previously trained in and have experience with medication administration
Other current and relevant trainings such as Non-violent Crises Intervention, Abuse Prevention Response Protocol, Positive Behavior Supports, etc.
Additional training requirements may include Mental Health First Aid
