Position Summary
We have a current opening for a 4th class Power Engineer (Apprentice or fully
certified) for a Maintenance Mechanic role. The ideal candidate will have at
least 2 to 3 years' experience performing general mechanical repairs, have
completed the course work for a 4th class power engineer at a Community College
or recognized program and looking to complete apprenticeship hours on the
job. Employees in this position may be engaged in a variety of activities but
primarily serve as those charged with the inspection, maintenance, and repair of
the facility and the equipment located therein. Fundamental responsibilities of
this role are to ensure safety, process efficiency, and product quality
throughout all operations. These individuals require strong mechanical aptitude
in addition to possessing a demonstrated and detailed working knowledge of
boiler maintenance, hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, mechanical, electrical,
motors, automation, guarding standards and PLCs.
Principle Responsibilities:

Ensures safe and efficient operation of facility and production equipment by
troubleshooting malfunctions and completing preventive and/or corrective
maintenance requirements; including but not limited to following diagrams,
sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering
specifications

Control downtime by informing production workers of routine preventive
maintenance techniques; monitoring and reporting compliance

Maintain equipment, parts, and supply inventories by checking stock to
determine inventory level; anticipating needed equipment, parts, and supplies;
placing and expediting orders; verifying receipt

Conserve maintenance resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to
accomplish job results

Prepares mechanical maintenance reports by collecting, analyzing, and
summarizing information and trends

Maintains related maintenance records and communicates actions,
irregularities, and continuing needs

Achieve planned work by collaborating with internal & external customers and
proactively raising any potential risks along with proposed solutions to achieve
the plan

Maintain a safe and clean work environment by ensuring work areas are clean
and organized and everything is in its prescribed location

Work with vendors and contractors to attain quotations, material, service,
and that contractors also follow prescribed company safety policies and
procedures

Participate in capital budgets and the action plans that support the budget,
with the support of the Operations Manager

Protect and preserve capital assets by completing prescribed Pre-use
Inspections and Preventative Maintenance

Operation of forklift as required

Represent Plasti-Fab in a professional and courteous manner when dealing
with internal & external customers

Functional Responsibilities:

Ensure safe equipment operation and report any equipment deficiencies.

Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Ensure your work area is clean and free from debris and hazards.

Organize work requirements as directed by the Production Supervisor or
designate.

Communicate all issues to the Production Supervisor or designate.

Complete all required paperwork legibly and accurately.

Carry out the physical demands of the job in a safe and efficient manner.

Manage and contribute to the justification, and implementation of Capital
projects.

Install, improve, repair, troubleshoot, fabricate with appropriate
equipment. Identify when ticketed trades are necessary.

Must possess the ability to drive a forklift, platform lift, or other
equipment as necessary.

Above average computer skills

Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Working Conditions:
-
Must be physically fit, have full range of motion to perform work, including
sitting and standing for long periods. There will be a frequent need to lift
upwards of 50 lbs.

On-site work area – inside and outside, working in heat, cold, wetness, wind,
dust, rain, snow, and noise.

Overtime and weekend work will be required as needed.
Qualifications & Skills:
The following are the anticipated technical and functional qualifications, with
the appropriate combination of experience and education being taken into
consideration:
- Grade 12 diploma or recognized GED
- 4th Class Power Engineer or completed schooling and need to complete
apprenticeship hours to become certified
- Post-secondary Valid Driver’s License
- Experience in electrical, mechanical, pneumatics, millwrighting, power
engineering, industrial maintenance (IMT), automation, hydraulics, or other
technical field is an asset
- Valid Forklift, Platform, and Working at Heights certificates
- Intermediate to advanced skill set in MS Office suite of products
- Demonstrated experience with CMMS software
- 2 to 3 years demonstrated and detailed working knowledge of hydraulics,
pneumatics, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, motors, automation, PLCs, and
guarding standards
- First Aid and CPR training
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints/drawings
- Ability to read measurements in both Metric and Imperial systems
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team,
- Must be able to take and follow directions,
- Ability to record data legibly and accurately as needed.
