Position Overview
The City of Guelph Recreation Division offers a variety of recreation fitness program for people of all ages and abilities in weekly sessions throughout the year. We offer a variety of classes at various locations – West End Community Centre, Victoria Road Recreation Centre, Evergreen Seniors Community Centre and Guelph Sports Dome.
Reporting to the Recreation Program Coordinator, successful candidates will lead a fun and motivating setting for group fitness classes and be inclusive to all participants. Please identify any specializations in your resume.
Hours of work
This is a part-time position scheduled for up to 20 hours per week, including days, evenings, weekends, based on the program schedule. Immediate program needs include (but not limited to):
Group Fitness Instructor
Fitness Certification required
Experience teaching a variety of group fitness programs
Prenatal/Postnatal Fitness Instructor
Fitness Certification with specialized experience in Prenatal/postnatal coaching/training required
60 minute classes offered
Total Body & Strength Instructor
Fitness certification required
Relevant experience teaching strength & conditioning
60 minute classes offered
Spin/Cycle Instructor
Spin/cycle certification required
45 min to 1 hour classes offered
Rowing Instructor
Rowing instructor certification or related experience as a rower required
45 minute classes being offered including a warm up and post stretch
Tai Chi & Qi Gong Instructor
Tai Chi and/or Qi Gong Certification required
Relevant experience teaching Tai Chi or Qi Gong
60 minute classes offered
Barre Instructor
Fitness certification required
Relevant experience teaching Barre or Dance
60 minute classes offered
Key duties and responsibilities
Plan and develop programming for fitness specific programs
Create a welcoming environment for all participants
Communicate with the program team
Responsible for the health and safety of participants and complete incident/accident forms when needed
Ensure facilities and equipment are maintained and kept in an acceptable, safe condition.
Act as a resource for program participants
Provide an enthusiastic and exciting fitness experience
Provide fully inclusive programming to participants of all abilities and skill levels
Provide modifications where required
Ensure participant confidentiality
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and requirements
Must hold an approved group fitness instructor certification (CANFITPRO, etc.)
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Previous experience in program planning, development, and implementation for specific age group
A satisfactory Police Record Check including Vulnerable Sector Check is required at time of offer
Standard first Aid with CPR C
Full availability is required for scheduled program day and time
Successful candidates are expected to have full commitment to the scheduled programs they will lead for all dates of the program
Rate of Pay$29.22 per hour (under review)
