We’koqma’q Mi’kmaw School is seeking a dedicated and reliable Maintenance Person to join our team. This full-time position is responsible for ensuring the school facilities are safe, clean, and well-maintained. The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting a positive learning environment for students, staff, and visitors.
Key Responsibilities
Perform routine maintenance and repairs on school buildings, grounds, and equipment.
Conduct regular inspections to identify and address safety hazards or maintenance needs.
Maintain heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems.
Handle snow removal, lawn care, and general landscaping duties.
Ensure cleanliness of common areas, including hallways, washrooms, and classrooms.
Respond promptly to maintenance requests and emergencies.
Monitor and maintain inventory of cleaning and maintenance supplies.
Assist with setup and teardown for school events and activities.
Follow all safety protocols and school policies.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.
Collaborate with school staff and external contractors as needed.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Proven experience in building maintenance, custodial work, or a related field.
Basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and HVAC systems.
Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Good physical condition and ability to lift heavy objects and perform manual labor.
Valid driver’s license and access to reliable transportation.
Ability to pass a criminal record check and vulnerable sector screening.
Familiarity with Indigenous communities and a commitment to respectful engagement is an asset.
