Job Description
SGS is currently looking for General Inspectors in multiple locations. Work will be assigned on a as needed basis and will be paid for the hours/days and other applicable cost items for the hours/days spent on the assigned work. The work duration could be a day or several days or several weeks. The General inspector is the Company’s authorized representative and is to observe the Contractor’s progress and inspect all activities in their assigned areas in accordance with Company drawings, plans, specifications and the terms of the construction contract or agreement. The General Inspector could also be asked to assist other certified craft inspectors, as required. General Inspectors primarily work on pipeline projects.
The General Inspector will:
• Using stop work authority, will immediately stop work activity, and notify Contractor supervision of unsafe conditions and/or acts and ensure all site personnel are aware of their obligation to do so as well.
• Review and understand contractor Safe Work Practices & Job Safety/Hazard Analysis for the work they are assigned to oversee and hold contractor accountable to execute the work to the per the procedures. This includes participation in daily tailgate/tailboard meetings and field level hazard assessments (FLHA).
• Hold responsibility for the assigned area which includes but not limited to survey, clearing, grading, trenching, excavation, stringing, field bending, backfilling, lowering-in, lifting & setting, clean-up, and restoration.
• Observe the Contractor’s progress and inspect all activities in assigned areas in accordance with Company drawings, plans, specifications, and the terms of the construction contract/agreement.
• Ensure ITPs are completed as the work is being progressed and relevant documentation is reviewed and accepted by The Client.
• Work with the contractor to ensure that stakeholder and local community commitments within their scope are tracked and implemented.
• Assist other certified inspectors as directed and where properly trained to do so.
• Ensure that the contractor is implementing their Site-Specific Safety Plan. Create and foster a positive work environment and a proactive/mature safety culture with the inspection staff.
• Monitor the work and as required influence corrective action(s) with the Contractor or inspection staff.
• Identify construction and/or safety non-conformance issues and raise them to the Chief Inspector (US only), Construction Manager or the Assistant Construction Manager.
• Provide technical leadership, expertise, and guidance to the project personnel.
• Participate in incident investigations.
• Records management associated with construction documentation.
• Identify innovation and value creation opportunities related to construction aspects.
• Participation in lessons learned and close-out meeting(s).
• Participate in site safety and quality walk downs and note any discrepancies.
• Complete the daily inspection reports in accordance with applicable Company Inspection Standards.
Qualifications
Must have:
3+ years of General Inspection experience
Very strong knowledge of and experience with industry processes and procedures
API 1169 certified
API 1184 certified
High school diploma
Oil and gas pipeline and industrial facilities experience
Nice to have:
8-10 years of oil and gas pipeline and industrial facilities experience
Trade – red seal in relevant field
