Raymond James Independent Financial Services is seeking an Associate Financial Advisor to work in our Toronto Office. The Bowes Wealth Management team delivers discretionary and non-discretionary portfolio management with integrated cross-border expertise, including the management of U.S. retirement plans for Canada–U.S. clients. As a high-performing, multi-advisor team based in Toronto’s Queens Quay, we serve high-net-worth families, business owners, and institutional relationships with disciplined, goals-based wealth management.
We are seeking an energetic, ambitious, and driven Associate Advisor who thrives in both analytical and client-facing environments. The ideal candidate combines technical investment knowledge with the ability to build strong, lasting relationships with high-net-worth clients. This role is ideal for a Investment Associate looking to take the next step up, or someone with a Portfolio Analyst with a CFA/CFP/CIM.
Responsibilities:
Work closely with the team’s portfolio managers to manage investment portfolios
Work closely with Portfolio Managers to manage fee-based investment portfolios across globally diversified portfolios incorporating ETFs, mutual funds, equities, fixed income, preferred shares, structured notes, and alternative investments including private securities and hedge funds.
Assist in research, analysis, and investment product selection.
Execute trades, including bulk trading of discretionary models
Prepare investment policy statements, investment proposals, and client review presentations.
Prepare advisors for client and prospect meetings by assembling briefing notes, performance and risk reports, proposals, and post‑meeting follow‑ups.
Generate and update IPS documents, portfolio models, and performance reports.
Deal directly with clients, attend client meetings, present investment ideas and encourage disciplined investor behavior.
Streamline administrative processes and resolve issues proactively.
Build, monitor and re-balance customized investment portfolios, in accordance with client’s profile and compliance requirements.
Provide high quality client service, including phone, email, written & in-person communication.
Liaise with support team to ensure that client portfolios are consistent with clients’ financial plans.
Support the team with current and new business in partnership with the Portfolio Managers.
Provide tax-efficient and holistic advice on investments, incorporating strategies for tax minimization, asset allocation, and long-term wealth planning.
Strong understanding of corporate structures is a nice-to-have to optimize advice for business owners and incorporated professionals.
Collaborate with tax specialists and legal advisors to integrate investment recommendations with broader financial planning, such as retirement strategies, charitable giving, and intergenerational wealth transfer.
Educate clients on the tax implications of investment decisions, such as capital gains, dividends, and foreign holdings.
Proactively manage a client touchpoint calendar by tracking KYC renewals, IPS updates, maturities, RRIF/RMD withdrawals, corporate action deadlines, tax slips, and other key dates to prompt timely outreach.
Lead periodic review meetings; coordinate with the team’s financial planner and portfolio managers on calls, seminars, and client hospitality events (e.g., golf outings and boat cruises)
Qualifications/Education/Requirements:
A minimum of 3-5 years’ of direct industry experience in the Canadian Investment Industry.
CIRO or OSC licensed. Ability to become RR licensed. CSC/CPH Complete.
Business/Finance/Math degree. Master's degree in Finance, MBA, or a related quantitative field is a plus.
CIM or CFP/QAFP designation or CFA in progress.
Outstanding interpersonal skills and able to work independently and in a team.
Familiarity with Dataphile, FactSet, Morningstar.
Nice to have: Knowledge of U.S. retirement accounts (IRAs, Roth IRAs, 401(k)s) and cross-border planning, alongside Canadian registered plans (RRSP, RRIF, LIRA/LIF, TFSA, RESP, RDSP), including rollover/transfer rules, withholding and tax reporting, and tax-efficient asset location.
A Network of clients/contacts with an Entrepreneurial mindset.
Confidence in providing financial advice to clients with strong analytical skills.
Able to build strong, lasting relationships with high-net-worth clients.
Able to work independently and in a team.
Salary Range: $80,000-100,000
