About the Role
Are you looking for your next opportunity in the insurance industry? MutualONE is looking for an Underwriting Specialist to join our team. As Underwriting Specialist, you will play a key role in leading and motivating a team of personal lines underwriters. Your focus will be on fostering a culture of development and collaboration and ensuring exceptional service to our agents and broker partners. You will be a highly supportive and engaging leader who can lead indirectly, virtually, and via others.
Working under the direction of the Manager of Underwriting Services, you will provide day-to-day guidance acting as a referral source, training, and mentoring to the personal lines underwriting team, while continuing to underwrite key accounts. You will support the profitable growth of the personal lines insurance portfolio by acting as a referral to the underwriters, performing file audits, and training of the Underwriters. You will also work with the Manager of Business Intelligence and Manager of IT and Innovation to test system updates and rate changes and perform system training for the Underwriting Team.
Desired Competencies
To join our team, you will ideally:
Possess post-secondary education in a related field or have equivalent industry experience.
Hold a CIP designation (or be actively working toward completion).
Have a minimum of five years of underwriting experience, preferably in personal lines.
Demonstrate strong technical underwriting knowledge and sound judgment in risk assessment.
Build and maintain positive relationships with agents, brokers, and other external stakeholders.
Be well-organized with a high attention to detail and accuracy.
Have a proven ability to coach, mentor, and contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment.
Be proficient with computer systems and demonstrate the ability to learn new applications quickly.
Be able to successfully complete a comprehensive background check.
Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day guidance, mentoring, and technical support to the Personal Lines Underwriting team.
Act as a referral source for complex or exceptional risks and support underwriters in decision-making.
Underwrite and maintain key accounts to ensure profitable growth and adherence to underwriting standards.
Conduct file audits and reviews to ensure accuracy, consistency, and compliance with company guidelines.
Assist in training and development of underwriting staff, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Collaborate with the Manager of Business Intelligence and Manager of IT & Innovation to test and implement system updates, rate changes, and process improvements.
Deliver system and process training to underwriting staff as needed.
Maintain strong relationships with agents and broker partners, ensuring timely and professional service.
Identify opportunities to enhance underwriting processes, tools, and guidelines.
Perform other duties as assigned in support of the underwriting function and organizational goals.
