We take pride in prevailing as an important department in today’s competitive psychology research and education fields.Under the direction of the Director, Administration and Finance, the incumbent is responsible for providing a wide range of accounting, payroll, and other administrative services for the Department of Psychology.Your responsibilities will include:
Preparing and/or processing journal entries
Generating standard financial reports
Reconciling purchasing card statements
Processing payroll and expense reimbursements
Collecting supporting documentation required for accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing
Liaising with internal contacts to resolve accounting, payroll and/or HRIS processing issues
Applying the University Guide to Financial Management and other applicable policies, agency and regulatory requirements
Liaising with clients and vendors to resolve minor complaints and address issues
Essential Qualifications:
Advanced College Diploma (3 years) in Business/Accounting or an acceptable combination of equivalent experience.
Minimum three (3) years of relevant experience processing financial and payroll transactions.
Experience dealing with a large volume of transactions, customer service, and responding to inquiries in a professional manner.
Prior experience applying organizational guidelines and procedures to financial activities.
Experience in monitoring expenditures at a unit/departmental level, tracking, reconciling, and reporting on spending, recording detailed transactions on multiple accounts, including payroll and personnel information.
Ability to prioritize and complete many competing demands in order to meet strict deadlines with keen attention to detail.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Must be highly service-oriented and possess strong interpersonal skills, and ability to work well in a team environment.
Advanced skills with MS Office, including Excel and Word.
Excellent written and oral communications skills with the ability to explain financial concepts to a variety of contacts.
Strong skills with SAP-based systems, including FIS and HRIS, or equivalent organizational systems.
Excellent interpersonal skills with a superior customer service orientation and ability to deal tactfully, personably and effectively with staff, students, and all other stakeholders.
Excellent organizational skills to maintain accurate records.
Excellent time management skills.
Demonstrated ability to identify and correct financial discrepancies and strong attention to detail.
Demonstrated initiative, tact and good judgment as well as confidentiality.
Assets (Nonessential):
Experience working with the University of Toronto's relevant financial and administrative guidelines and policies is an asset.
