THE OPPORTUNITY
Reporting to the Director of Construction, this position is responsible for managing the delivery of assigned projects on Toronto’s waterfront. This individual will play a key role in undertaking due diligence and planning, as well as delivering key capital projects along Toronto’s waterfront. Projects may include dock wall rehabilitation, marine infrastructure, shoreline protection, dredging, along with any required site preparation, environmental works, and both above- and below-grade construction. This role will focus on managing project teams, consultants, and contractors to ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to quality and safety standards.
PRINCIPAL FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage day-to-day delivery of assigned capital projects from planning through construction closeout, ensuring adherence to approved scope, schedule, and budget.
Support tendering processes, review bids, and provide recommendations for contract awards.
Monitor project progress by periodically visiting project sites and using project management tools to track schedules, budgets, and risks; prepare regular progress reports.
Manage the preparation of contract drawings, specifications, tender documents, and other project documentation.
Coordinate and communicate with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to resolve issues and maintain momentum.
Participate in design and construction meetings, addressing change notices and ensuring timely decision-making.
Review contractor invoices, progress draws and change orders.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, codes, and safety requirements. Assist with obtaining the required permits and approvals and liaise with regulatory bodies and utilities as needed.
Assist in preparing presentations to provide project updates to various stakeholders and participate in the community consultation process.
CANDIDATE ATTRIBUTES
Post-secondary education in Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, or related discipline.
5–7 years of experience managing construction projects (experience in marine and/or waterfront construction is an asset).
Proven ability to coordinate multiple stakeholders in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Knowledge of civil, structural, and environmental construction principles and methods.
Familiarity with municipal and provincial codes, standards, and permitting processes (City of Toronto experience is an asset).
Understanding of Ontario construction contracts, including CCDC documents.
Ability to interpret technical drawings, contracts, and construction documents.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project) and collaboration tools such as Microsoft Teams.
Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position is based in Toronto, with occasional travel to project sites. Some evening or weekend work may be required to meet project deadlines.
