The City of Edmonton's Planning and Environment Services Branch seeks a highly motivated professional knowledgeable in climate resilience and energy efficiency programming. This role drives community-based initiatives aligned with our Community Energy Transition Strategy and Climate Resilient Edmonton: Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan. You'll lead complex projects from concept to completion, focusing on high-return climate action investments.
This position involves exploring opportunities, developing educational tools, and delivering inclusive community programs to achieve greenhouse gas reduction targets and climate adaptation goals. In collaboration with diverse partners, you will coordinate projects that enhance community knowledge, build capacity, implement social marketing, and develop equitable energy transition and climate resilience programs.
We're looking for an experienced and driven Senior Program Manager to lead transformative community-facing projects, making a tangible impact on Edmonton's environmental sustainability and the well-being of all community members.
What will you do?
Leadership
Provide guidance and mentorship to staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment
Apply project and change management best practices
Inspire and lead teams, focusing on implementing the City's community actions within the Community Energy Transition Strategy and Climate Resilient Edmonton: Adaptation Strategy and Action Plan to achieve successful outcomes
Community Engagement / Awareness
Develop engagement and communication plans to ensure public involvement
Develop educational materials to promote program uptake and encourage participation in environmental actions
Energy and Climate Initiatives
Develop, implement, and manage complex energy transition and climate resilience community projects, such as incentive programs. This includes leveraging partnerships, cross-sector collaborations, and integrating complementary programs, as well as initiatives related to green building technologies and renewable energy
Stay updated on emerging trends and innovative approaches in sustainable community programming
Program Development and Community Mobilization
Oversee project procurement, delivery, and budget, while continuously improving environmental and climate program implementation processes
Conduct complex analysis and decision-making, balancing operational and financial objectives
Establish community outreach opportunities that promote environment and climate resilience practices, such as educational awareness, events, and training
This position will be at the forefront of shaping a greener Edmonton by spearheading initiatives that promote climate resilience and energy efficiency programming to support a sustainable future for all.
University Degree in Environmental Sciences, Biology, Chemistry, Engineering, Planning, Policy, Business Management or related discipline
Minimum of seven years of progressive program management experience, including direct supervision of teams and multiple responsibilities in areas such as environment, water conservation, waste management, energy conservation, energy efficiency, clean energy, climate resilience, and/or air quality
Skills required for success:
Diverse Team Leadership: Supervise and lead diverse teams of professionals, providing expert advice on environmental and climate assessments, integration, and engagement
Strategic Program Management: Lead program development and implementation, managing procurement, delivery, and budgets to meet quality, cost, and time objectives
Effective Communication & Problem-Solving: Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills for diverse audiences and documents, coupled with well-developed problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation abilities
Autonomous & Collaborative Work: Exhibit the capacity to manage complex tasks and deadlines with minimal direction, working constructively as both a team member and leader
Sector-Specific Experience: Possess necessary related experience in sectors such as government, non-profit, real estate, tourism, health, insurance, renewable energy, forestry, industry, electricity, education, and/or transportation

Up to: 1 permanent full-time position
Hours of work: 36.9 hours per week, Monday - Friday
Salary: $105,668.31 - $132,083.940 (Annually)
This position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement with the flexibility to work from both home and the worksite
This position is eligible for the EDO program (Earned Day Off)
