Senior Solution Architect - Hybrid The Opportunity The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is currently seeking a Senior Solution Architect to join the Information Management Technology (IMT) branch. The Senior Solution Architect leads the design and delivery of scalable, secure, and business-aligned architectural solutions across multiple projects. In this strategic role, you will guide technical leads, ensuring alignment with enterprise reference architecture, standards and guidelines when designing solutions. In this role you will collaborate with Data Architects, Product Owners and Technical Leads to translate business requirements into effective solutions, while working with the Architectural Practice Leads to drive governance, standardization, integration and the evolution of enterprise architecture practices. This is a blended role: part hands-on architecture, part mentorship and coordination, and part strategic alignment with the broader enterprise ecosystem. What your day-to-day will look like: Lead solution architecture efforts with Product Owners and Data Architects to deliver scalable, secure solutions aligned with business goals. Translate requirements into high-level conceptual solution options with clear information that will help executive teams make strategic and priority decisions. Advise on architecture options to ensure consistency with application, infrastructure, and business needs. Define and promote best practices for data modeling, integration, naming conventions, and metadata management. Mentor Technical Leads to ensure quality and adherence to standards. Maintain comprehensive architecture documentation for traceability and audit readiness. Designing solutions that are structurally sound, modular, and environment-agnostic Applying reusable patterns and reference architectures to guide implementation. Anticipating environment-specific risks and embedding controls to mitigate them. Collaborating with DevOps and security teams to align runtime behavior with design intent. What we’re looking for in you: Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field. 7-10 years of experience in solution architecture and design for enterprise solutions. 5+ years supporting Agile delivery. Proven ability to translate business needs into scalable solution options. Experience with cloud-based architectures and CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with DevOps practices. Experience working with GraphQL and Federation, Confluent Kafka, Microsoft Azure services, Node.Js, React, Ant Design Proficient with API-based sharing, and event-driven architectures. Track record designing and delivering detailed solution designs. Experience in regulated industries (e.g., oil & gas, government). Effective leader and mentor with strong communication skills.
