At A-Gas, we are transforming the industrial and environmental landscape across Canada. Our commitment to safety, sustainability, and operational excellence drives everything we do. We are seeking a proactive, people focused EHS Manager to lead and elevate our environmental, health and safety programs across Halifax, Stoney Creek and future sites across Eastern Canada.
In this high impact role, you will not just enforce compliance you will shape our safety culture, influence operational decisions and drive continuous improvement across all levels of the organization. You will partner closely with leadership and operations teams to ensure every decision and process reflects our values of care, accountability and zero harm excellence.
What you’ll be doing
Lead the EHS function across multiple locations, setting strategic priorities and ensuring consistent standards, compliance, and performance.
Coach and influence site leaders and employees to strengthen safety culture and engagement through active communication, training, and visibility on the floor.
Oversee risk management programs, including hazard identification, risk assessments, and corrective action follow-up for processes, equipment, and materials.
Drive regulatory compliance i.e. maintain permits, manage reporting obligations, and ensure adherence to national and provincial EHS requirements.
Champion environmental responsibility, ensuring sustainable practices around hazardous materials handling, waste management, and emissions control.
Lead incident investigations and root cause analyses, ensuring learnings translate into preventive actions and improved systems.
Manage and deliver safety training, onboarding programs, and emergency preparedness drills to build readiness and confidence across all teams.
Analyze EHS data and performance metrics to identify trends, measure progress, and recommend data-driven improvements.
Collaborate across sites and regions to align EHS programs with broader organizational goals, including “The A-Gas Way” and “Towards Zero Together.”
Continuously enhance policies and processes, bringing forward ideas that strengthen compliance, culture, and operational excellence.
Travel up to 10%-15% to support sites and regional initiatives.
Post-secondary education in Occupational Health & Safety or Environmental Science (or equivalent experience).
8+ years of progressive EHS experience in an industrial, warehousing, or plant environment, including at least 2 years in a leadership or site-responsible capacity owning the function.
Strong knowledge of Canadian EHS legislation and standards (CEPA, CCOHS, CanOSH, provincial OHS regulations).
Proven ability to lead through influence where you build trust, motivate teams, and engage leaders at all levels.
Skilled in training, audits, inspections, and incident management with an eye for both detail and big-picture impact.
Strong communication and organizational skills and confidence in presenting, reporting, and managing multiple priorities with clarity.
Comfort with EHS systems and digital tools, including Microsoft Office and data tracking platforms.
A hands-on, collaborative mindset equally comfortable driving strategy and rolling up your sleeves in the field.
